Do you believe that every child needs a champion? Are you passionate about supporting children to 'Be the best they can be?' Are you deeply committed to making a difference every day?
We have a new exciting opportunity to be part of the dynamic and supportive team at Thrumpton Primary Academy - a fantastic school that puts children at the forefront of everything we do.
Our school building was devastated by floods as a result of Storm Babet in October. We have relocated our whole school to the Retford Education Centre where we will be based until our school building is safe and ready for our return.
Despite this challenge, our talented team continue to strive to make a difference to our children and community and provide the best education possible for our children.
We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated Personal Care Assistant to join our team and to support a child with varying and complex needs - to assist with their day-to-day learning and personal care.
Previous experience working with children facing barriers to learning will be advantageous for the role, but not essential.
This is an exciting and dynamic role that requires individuals to think on their feet. No two days are the same and you will need to be able to respond to the unplanned as well as be planned for the expected. The candidate must be resilient yet understanding and compassionate.
The candidate will:
- Be calm, caring, considerate and be very patient
- Promote positive behaviour
- Communicate effectively with children, staff and parents
- Be able to adapt to the needs of the child
- Have a passion to build positive relationships with children
The successful candidate will benefit from:
- full support and induction
- a strong and caring ethos among staff and pupils
- excellent CPD opportunities
- networking opportunities across Diverse Academies Trust
- salary sacrifice schemes
In return we can offer you:
- An excellent working environment – even in our temporary base!
- A highly supportive staff
- Well behaved and motivated children
- A competitive employment package
- A school who will allow you to be creative and support your professional development
- A network of partnership schools within the Diverse Academies and the support and opportunities this provides

Situated in the market town of Retford, the academy has a long history since first opening its doors in 1874 to children in the local area. Our new academy building opened in 2004 and provides the welcoming, bright and stimulating learning environment our Thrumpton children thrive in today.
Our vision is for all pupils to have great opportunities to develop, achieve and enjoy their education. We accomplish this through providing a wide, balanced and interesting curriculum, engaging pupils through great teaching, and ensuring that we provide appropriate support for all.
Celebrating diversity, recognising difference and supporting children to understand their place in the community is embraced within the academy, and British values are embedded within our curriculum.
The future for all pupils who attend Thrumpton Primary is bright, and we want our children to aspire to be the very best that they can be – our staff will support them in reaching for these goals.
It is also very important to us to work closely with our local community. We engage with parents, carers, local businesses and the public to provide opportunities to find out about what we are doing within the academy.
We look forward to meeting you.
