1:1 Teacher

Here at The Unicorn School teaching is bespoke and individualised. Our teaching is based purely on each pupil’s needs. We capitalise on their strengths and interests and prioritise their needs based on assessments, EHCPs, reports and discussions with class and subject teachers and also in collaboration with the school therapists. We aim to build self-esteem and confidence and a wide range of skills that can be transferred to the classroom and home life. 

The whole class go to their 1:1 teachers at the same time. This means that the children are not missing out on other lessons and don’t feel singled out in front of their peers.  

Our 1:1 teachers are experienced teachers, or TAs, who hold a level 5 (degree level) or level 7 (postgraduate level) qualification in working with children with dyslexia. All the teachers also have experience of working individually with children with ASC, ADHD and DLD.  

Our training enables us to understand a range of standardised tests (and associated data) and the implications of the results of these for teaching and learning.
