Job overview

We are seeking a 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a Year 9 pupil, who is an occasional wheelchair user. The role is fixed term to cover a period of leave, initially for one term, but this could be extended. You will be providing one to one support, working individually and in a class environment to support learning. You will be expected to liaise with teachers and SENDCO on content of delivery and outcomes of lessons. You’ll be monitoring and supporting the social and physical development of the child and regularly communicate with the parents on development.

Hours, Salary & Benefits:

Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Term time only, fixed term contract of 1 term for now, can be extended.

Salary: £12.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • To assist the Subject Teacher to deliver the curriculum to an individual child who has special educational needs.
  • To support the child in order for them to physically access the school site safely including through use of a wheelchair where necessary.
  • To monitor, evaluate and record the child’s progress and attainment in order to feedback to the teachers, SENDCO and parents as appropriate.


Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills with children and adults.
  • A relevant NVQ or similar qualification related to working with children.
  • The ability to work as successfully as part of a team.
  • Empathy, compassion and positivity. Good written communication skills.
  • A sense of responsibility and able to use their initiative.
  • A constructive and problem-solving attitude.
  • Adaptability and flexibility.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a school-based role or having worked alongside children.
  • Experience of working with children with special education needs.

Founded in 1928, Westonbirt School is a secondary school with a sixth form for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18. There are currently around 500 pupils enrolled at the school. It is situated on 210 acres of land in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. The school has a thriving boarding community. Pupil numbers have grown rapidly since the transition to full co-education in September 2019. A whole site development masterplan is in place which has seen significant investment in new teaching spaces, boarding accommodation, sports facilities and infrastructure.
