Job overview

Brighton College Vietnam is seeking to appoint an AEN Teacher starting Aug 2025 to support the education and provision of our pupils on the AEN (Additional Education Needs) Register. Suitable candidates should have experience of working with pupils who have additional needs and have knowledge of how to support them to become the best version of themselves.

This role would be working primarily in the senior school but may require some work in the prep school.

In partnership and in consultation with the Head of AEN, the AEN Teacher will focus on aspects of the areas below at any one time. 

Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum:

  • Work closely with pupils who have been assigned as needing support that is additional to and different from the pupil body.
  • Support pupils in mainstream classes.
  • Support pupils through small group and one-to-one intervention.
  • Complete intervention records to support impact tracking.
  • Consult with teachers to enhance the AEN offering.
  • Monitor and track the progress of pupils on the AEN Register.
  • Support the Head of AEN with the development of the intervention offering.
  • Support planning and facilitation of transition activities for year 6.\
  • Work closely with the Head of AEN and other stakeholders to ensure the needs of the pupils are known and supported.

 The AEN Team

  • Monitor pupils on the AEN Register, monitoring list and support with investigations of referred pupils.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and share pupil progress information with the Team in a timely manner.
  • Be proactive and support pupils in the classroom for information gathering purposes.
  • Contribute to the writing and updates of learning support plans and one-page profiles.
  • Attend and contribute to internal meetings to support the aims of the department.
  • Attend training sessions.
  •  Be open and flexible to change.
  • Work with the Head of AEN to maintain online registers, intervention records and report concerns in a timely manner.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly departmental meetings.
  • Support the team to ensure referrals from staff are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner to ensure effective assessment and intervention.
  • Ensure that the learning environment and display areas in the AEN department are well-maintained.
  • Model the Brighton College Vietnam values every day.

 Requirements

The successful applicant is expected to have the following skills, abilities, knowledge and experience.

General Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • AEN teaching experience.
  • Previous experience in a 5-18 British curriculum school is desirable.
  • Experience in teaching AEN in both prep and secondary will be an advantage.

 Personal Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in teaching literacy and numeracy to pupils with specific needs.
  • Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills with a solution-focused, positive attitude.
  • Commitment to supporting and developing a holistic approach to pupil development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and timely follow-up.
  • Flexibility of approach in line with the changing needs of the cohort.
  • Willingness to participate in the co-curricular programme.

 Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience advising on adapted materials and resources for pupils on the AEN Register.
  • Providing support to targeted pupils in classes, one to one or in small groups.
  • Willingness to support invigilation for refined access arrangements e.g. alternative location/rest breaks.
  • Experience in the support of monitoring and tracking pupil progress to support in setting clear targets for achievement.
  • Solid ICT skills.
