Sedbergh School Vietnam (SSV) is a bilingual international boarding school. We have a very close working relationship with Sedbergh School UK and aim to deliver an exciting and holistic education for both Vietnamese nationals and foreign students in District 7 of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. SSV was previously the Bilingual Canadian International School (BCIS) and part of the EQuest Education Group. Building on the excellent reputation of Sedbergh UK with 500 years of history and boarding experience, we offer an exciting approach to the delivery of the Vietnamese National Curriculum in addition to an emerging Cambridge Curriculum including IGCSE and A Level programmes. We currently have over 1400 students from Nursery to Year 13 and approximately 200 support and teaching staff making Sedbergh Vietnam a busy school with a number of exciting challenges ahead as we expand. The role:

● Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Art and Design lessons aligned with:

- Cambridge Lower Secondary Art & Design

- Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design (0400)

- Cambridge International AS & A Level Art & Design (9479)

● Develop and implement comprehensive schemes of work that cover all required practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and critical understanding for each level.

● Create a stimulating and inclusive studio environment that encourages all students to explore their creativity and develop their artistic skills.

● Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles and artistic abilities, including demonstrations, visual presentations, gallery visits, and hands-on projects.

● Guide students through skill development and theoretical understanding, adapting approaches to suit the level:

- Focus on fundamental art techniques and exploration of various mediums in Lower Secondary

- Develop more advanced skills, personal expression, and understanding of art contexts in IGCSE

- Foster sophisticated conceptual thinking, independent projects, and critical analysis at A Level

● Ensure safe practices in the art studio, including proper use of materials, tools, and equipment.

● Prepare students for Cambridge examinations at each level, including guidance on portfolio development, practical exams, and written components.

● Assess and monitor student progress regularly, using both formative and summative assessment techniques aligned with Cambridge standards for each level.

● Provide detailed and constructive feedback on students' artwork and written assignments.

● Organize and curate student art exhibitions, both within the school and in the wider community.

● Communicate effectively with parents about student progress and artistic development through regular meetings and reports.

● Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular projects and integrate visual arts across the curriculum.

● Stay updated with current developments in art education, contemporary art practices, and related pedagogical approaches.

● Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school activities.

● Support older students in their university applications, particularly those pursuing fine arts, design, or related creative fields.

Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts/ Art Education or a related field.

● Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ PGCE or other international equivalents.

● Minimum 5 years’ experience of teaching Art and Design across secondary levels (11-18 years old).

● Minimum 2 years' experience of teaching the Cambridge Curriculum.

● Experience teaching in an international school setting is a preferable.

● In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge Art & Design curriculum from Lower Secondary to A Level.

● Excellent understanding of assessment and examination requirements for Cambridge Art & Design qualifications.

● Strong practical skills in a range of art mediums and techniques.

● Proficiency in using digital tools and software for art and design.

● Excellent classroom management skills.

● Passionate about art education and fostering creativity in students.

● Ability to inspire and motivate students of all artistic abilities.

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

● Patient and encouraging, with the ability to build students' confidence in their artistic abilities.

● Creative and innovative in approach to teaching Art and Design.

● Adaptable and able to tailor teaching methods to different age groups and artistic abilities.

● Committed to ongoing professional development in art education and personal artistic practice.

● Strong commitment to student safety in the studio environment.

● Enthusiasm for promoting visual literacy and cultural awareness.

● Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.

● A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.

● Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children.
