Job overview
We are looking for a technician that is enthusiastic and passionate about Design and Technology as a subject. The right candidate will support developments in the Design and Technology department with a main focus in Food and Textiles. A friendly and “can-do” attitude is essential to working in this vibrant and dynamic department.
You will work as part of a team of three technicians and six teachers across Design and Technology and Art. You will be responsible for preparing class practicals and demonstrations for up to two teachers in the department. You will also be expected to support in practical lessons. You will also be responsible for maintaining and updating the Food Technology and Textiles room and actively acquiring new resources in order to support the progression of Design and Technology within our thriving department. You may also be required to support the work in Art and Product Design if as and when required.
Experience of working with secondary school students would be an advantage.
Main Duties
- Preparing materials and equipment for lessons
- Preparing materials for demonstrations
- Support students with their learning in lessons
- Support teachers with preparing resources
- Ordering of resources
- Putting up displays
- Ensuring equipment is maintained in good working order
- Ensuring the appropriate ingredients are available for students to use
- Ensuring that work is carried our according to COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance
- Carry out routine safety checks of equipment and accommodation in line with departmental policy

Stock Keeping and Administration
- Operate an efficient system for stocking, storing, transporting and distributing practicals and equipment within the department.
- Maintain stocks of consumable items and record stock control and deliveries as directed by the Head of Dept.
- Obtain quotations from suitable suppliers of equipment and materials.
- Work with teachers in order to ensure the preparation of requisitions on a weekly basis.
- Weekly purchase of ingredients for student use.
General
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by your line manager when required.
- Take reasonable care of the health and safety of self, other persons and resources whilst at work.
- To support the school in meeting its obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
