About the role

This role is to support the teaching of Art, Textiles and 3D Design. The precise support timetable will be tailored to suit the skills of the successful candidate. There will be an opportunity to share your creative skills whilst supporting individual teachers with the preparation for and delivery of their lessons. The successful candidate must possess a good general education and ideally professional training related to the Visual Arts and or relevant work experience would be required to fulfil the requirements listed in the Key.

The Visual Arts Department is a fully equipped department that is taught via specialist teachers from Year 7 to Year 11. All students take part in individual Art and Design lessons during KS3 as well as doing 3D Design, Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking, Textiles and Food Technology on a rotational basis. Many students opt to take at least one GCSE within the Visual Arts Department choosing between 3D Design, Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and Food Technology.

The successful candidate will be a part of a team of full time and part-time teachers, most of whom are practicing artists. A team player with the ability to communicate well with colleagues and students is essential, to enable the happy and creative working environment to continue.

Who we are looking for: 

As our new technician you’ll need to show a genuine commitment to ensuring all Teachers of Art are supported in facilitating use of a wide variety of mediums and processes in lessons, specialist classrooms and equipment, and attending local gallery trips.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Facilitate a wide variety of media to develop experimentation and learning.
  • Provide excellent, inspirational, and dedicated support to aid the teaching in a safe and stimulating environment. 
  • Knowledge of safe and effective working practices in a studio working with a range of materials. 
  • Organise and develop studio atmosphere. 
  • Support the planning of lessons and schemes of work with the Visual Arts Department that address the various needs of our individual pupils and as collective, diverse cohorts. 
  • To inspire and enthuse pupils about the study of Visual Arts by providing clear support 
  • Create wall displays for teaching. 
  • Assist with exhibitions in School foyer during the academic year. 
  • Assist with end of year student shows. 
  • Attend Departmental meetings and share ideas. 
  • Share good practice and maintain Health & Safety requirements.
  • Develop sound working relationship with students. 
  • To support and engage NBH students with the arts and take responsibility for promoting, coordinating, and participating in Visual Arts.
