Job overview

Coach: Isle of Ely Rowing Club and Ely College

Introduction

The Isle of Ely Rowing Club and Ely College have been working in partnership for the past three years to provide students the opportunity to engage with 4-week taster sessions in water-based rowing. With the benefit of an initial one year’s funding, we are looking to take the partnership to the next level; and we are now seeking an enthusiastic self-employed Assistant Coach to provide support in the delivery of rowing sessions for 32 young people on a regular weekly basis.

The post will start in November 2021 where the assistant coach will be responsible for the supporting of delivery of two early morning sessions (Wednesday & Thursday) a week (7.00am – 8.30am) which will continue through the winter until after Easter, when we will look to revert to afternoon sessions (Typically 3.30pm-5.00pm). The sessions will be supported by club volunteers and be Led by the lead Coach who you will work closely with. Sessions are presently delivered in Charles Stanley stable quads and stable sculling boats but there will opportunities for students to progress to finer boats.

There will also be opportunity to support in the delivery of a week’s holiday course at Easter and in the summer as part of the funded role.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We are delighted to welcome you to Ely College.

Our shared vision is to be a truly great college, a beacon of excellence of which our whole community can be proud.

Since joining the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust in July 2016, the College has gone from strength to strength. In 2018 we were named ‘Secondary School of the Year’ by the Cambridge Evening News Education Awards and in July 2019, we were delighted that Ofsted judged us to be ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding leadership and management’. We are proud to have built even further on these successes with our recent GCSE results and our oversubscribed Year 7 intake.

Ely is a great place to live and a vibrant, supportive community. In partnership with our parents and the wider community, we are determined to improve the outcomes, destinations and opportunities for young people in East Cambridgeshire.

Ely College can boast some superb facilities and provides students with a wide range of opportunities for personal and academic development. You can be confident your child will be challenged and supported to secure the best possible outcomes. Our House system and smaller tutor groups help provide and encourage a number of opportunities for personal development as students work towards securing their PLEDGES (Participation, Leadership, Excellence, Diversity, Giving, Environmental and Service) both in and out of lessons.

I know that you want the best for your child, and as a parent myself I appreciate how important communication and confidence in our systems will be to you. Please be assured that we want to hear your views, and we welcome your input. We are very proud of our college, and welcome any chance to show new visitors or prospective students and families around. We think you'll like what you see.
