We are a family of academies who share one vision:
To provide the highest quality education for young people in the communities we serve.
Our vision goes beyond our own Trust. We want to contribute to the broader regeneration of our region by empowering our students to have high aspirations, achieve excellent outcomes and enjoy learning.
We aim to achieve our vision by being an excellent employer who ensures that all staff within and across our academies work together with high levels of moral integrity. We base every decision around one fundamental question: how will things improve for our young people as a result of this?
Our Academies share one vision and implement the same policies, but we are proud that each has its own unique identity. Staff collaborate within and across academies. We are committed to continually developing all staff so that they have high levels of satisfaction and are motivated to provide the best possible teaching and support to our students. We have the organisational expertise to support our academies and to support the sustainable growth of the Trust.
We are committed to the recruitment, retention and development of excellent staff, who are passionate about building positive relationships and improving the life chances of our young people.
Our academies recognise the huge potential in all of our students, we have high expectations and insist on high standards for all. Both academies have been evaluated as ’good’ in all areas by Ofsted:
Southmoor (Ofsted November: 2017): Southmoor Academy is a good and improving school where pupils are achieving well. Staff morale is very good… Teachers have good subject knowledge and use skilful questioning to extend pupils’ learning, develop skills and increase their understanding.
Southmoor 16-19 study: Students are mature and sensible. Current students in Years 12 and 13 are making good progress on their chosen courses because teaching is consistently good and members of staff are on hand to support them every step of the way.
Sandhill View (Ofsted September 2021): ‘Leaders have put in a place an ambitious curriculum to challenge pupils and encourage them to aim high… Curriculum leaders have organised the topics in each subject so that pupils can build on what they already know. Pupils learn effectively in lessons because they enjoy learning, and their behaviour is good.’
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher to work closely with the curriculum leader to lead in the design and development of our new KS3 curriculum for D&T, to inspire an appetite for excellence in our young people.
You will be:
· A well-qualified teacher with a passion for ensuring students' progress in all areas of Design and Technology
· An excellent classroom practitioner
· Unwavering in your commitment to engage pupils and build excellent positive relationships
· A team-player who will take full advantage of our dedicated CPD and support network
· Someone with a real drive to secure successful pupil outcomes
We offer:
· The opportunity to work with other highly successful teachers in technology
· A-level teaching within your specialism if you want development in this area
· Support to grow within an organisation that wants you to be happy and successful, and implements really innovative strategies to support this
· Ambitious pupils taught in an environment where outstanding academic progression is the highest priority; nearly half of all KS4 pupils at Southmoor Academy (and an increasing number of pupils from Sandhill View Academy) go on to study ‘A’ levels within the Trust, with over one third of all sixth formers who took up university courses in September 2018 now attending a Russell Group institution.

Southmoor Academy prides itself on being one of Sunderland’s highest ranking schools and has the motto "aspire, achieve, enjoy". The secondary school works to give all students the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background. Teachers allow pupils to develop their interests and skills through extra-curricular activities, creative arts or sport, alongside the regular curriculum.
Community is at the heart of the academy and pupils are encouraged to take an interest in their surroundings. Southmoor Academy specialises in maths and computing. The school also offers professional football training and coaching through the Martin Gray Football Academy.
Ofsted report
“Academy data, evidence from lesson observations, discussions with students and detailed work scrutiny show that students are making good progress. Their good achievement is a result of increasingly strong teaching and the very effective targeted support of students most at risk of underachieving. Most parents and carers who responded to the on-line questionnaire believe that their children make good progress."
