Job overview

Bradford Council

Assistant Director – Schools and Learning

Salary: £94,000 to £106,268 plus generous relocation support

Location: Bradford

Bradford Council is one of the largest local authorities in the country. A diverse and vibrant city where community still matters. All set in a district of remarkable natural beauty. Bradford might just surprise you. Come and work in magnificent Bradford District – UK City of Culture 2025!

We want Bradford to be a great place to be a child. This is reflected in our ambition to become a Unicef Child Friendly District, where the voice of the child is at the heart of all we do and all our children and young people can develop, thrive and prosper.

As our Assistant Director – Schools and Learning you will provide the Council’s strategic leadership on education improvement across both schools and early years, with an emphasis upon ensuring that the Local Authority is an effective systems leader for all our children, fulfilling our statutory responsibilities and maintaining effective relationships with headteachers, education leaders, and Ofsted. Using robust data, you will hold schools to account for their performance and fulfil our statutory responsibilities to ensure that schools take action to address areas for concern and drive continuous improvement. You will also be responsible for school attendance and education safeguarding in schools.

We are very ambitious for all our children in Bradford, and we are looking for someone who shares this ambition. You will have a key role in the development and leading of strategies and initiatives to promote improved outcomes for the children and young people of Bradford. This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward and lead a new way of delivering school support and improvement functions and to be part of a fast-paced, challenging, but highly supportive and committed service.
