The Grange School is seeking to appoint a new Assistant Head Academic, for July 2024.
I. JOB PURPOSE:
- To work alongside the Head of Section and the Head of Academic, Curriculum and Standards in the organisation, management and development of the Section with a particular focus on the academic curriculum, learning, teaching, assessment and raising standards within the Section.
- To be a model of good practice in all elements of teaching and learning.
- To contribute effectively to the development of The Grange ethos and values throughout the Section.
- To develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, pupils and parents.
- To ensure that all staff are supported to reach the highest standards acting as a visible, approachable, knowledgeable and effective practitioner.
- To ensure compliance with Curriculum requirements and timetabling as stated by MINEDUC
II. ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Shaping the Future
- To contribute to achieving the aims of the School`s Development Plan, contributing to its implementation, monitoring and evaluation and other policy developments where appropriate.
- To lead by example to motivate and work with others.
- To promote a culture of academic rigour and enjoyment of learning, ensuring the best outcomes for our pupils.
- To work alongside the Academic Team, to ensure consistency in curriculum, planning, monitoring, evaluation and standards across the section.
- Keep abreast of trends and emerging issues in education.
Leading Teaching and Learning
- To be an excellent role model, exemplifying a high standard of teaching and promoting high expectations for all members of the school community.
- To work with the Head of the Section to raise standards through staff appraisal.
- To support the Section management team with monitoring, evaluating and improving the quality of teaching and learning, with specific emphasis on raising standards and curriculum development.
- To contribute to the robust evaluation and actions arising from summative and formative attainment and progress data.
Developing Self and Others
- To work with the Head of Inclusion to ensure the inclusion of all pupils.
- To support the induction of staff new to the Section.
- To be a team leader in the annual appraisal process for all identified support and teaching staff.
III. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Head Academic will be expected to be an exemplary role model in terms of conduct, dress and professionalism and in all interactions and communications with colleagues, pupils, parents and our Grangonian community. This should be carried out by always showing respect, courtesy and empathy for everyone. The Assistant Head Academic is expected to support the school’s ethos at all times, is part of the Section management team and will liaise closely with other school teams for the benefit of all.
Academic Leadership
- Lead on all academic matters across the section, ensuring the phase exemplifies best practice.
- With the Head of Section, develop the strategic vision and direction for the academic life of the Section, following closely the lead given by the Whole School Head of Academic, Curriculum and Standards.
- Ensure appropriate systems for monitoring academic progress are developed and used to improve pupil progress.
- Use data effectively and track pupils` academic progress, following the directions given by the Whole School Head of Academic, Curriculum and Standards.
- Ensure Heads of Department (HoDs) develop curriculum, standards and assessment in line with whole school policy and procedures
- Liaise with the Inclusion Team and Heads of Year on issues that might impact academic progress and/or performance.
Financial Accountabilities and Allocation of Resources
- To have overall responsibility for budget setting and allocation in the Section.
- To ensure that there are effective budgetary controls in the section
- To monitor expenditure regularly with Head of Section and Gerencia
- Timetabling the Section
- Organising Cover for the Section
About The Grange School
The Grange School is a co-educational, independent all-through school with sixth form in Chile, serving pupils from the age of 4-18. The School, situated in La Reina, Santiago has approximately 2,200 pupils on roll.
The Grange School was founded in 1928 and is a bilingual institution, with pupils leaving the school fluent in both Spanish and English. The school enjoys a strong relationship with Britain and the Commonwealth and is affiliated with both the HMC and IAPS, as well as being accredited by the BSO.
