To start in April or September 2023, we are seeking to recruit an Assistant Head – Operations and Digital – to join our Senior Management Team. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to shape what is, in effect, a new role with regards to the digital aspects – especially in the light of current digital demands and expectations within the various layers of the School Community. The successful candidate will, ideally, be an experienced teacher with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who also appreciates the importance of the smooth operational running of school events, as well as overseeing the well-established processes for staffing in all its many facets on a daily and annual basis, who has worked in a middle management role, and wishes to take a step towards senior leadership in due course.

The supportive Senior Management Team consists of the Headmaster, 3 x Deputy Heads (Academic / Pastoral / i/c Lower Years), 2 x Assistant Heads (this role & Academic) as well as the Bursar – all of whom oversee the active life of the Junior School, as well as ensuring the continuation of strong links with the College, a mile away, where the vast majority of pupils move on to at 11+. Academic attainment is high amongst the 600+ pupils, with numerous extra-curricular activities to choose from, along with regular curriculum related workshops and trips, creating a highly stimulating and caring working and social environment - pastoral care & well-being of both pupils and staff being of the utmost importance.

The successful candidate should be able to engage, motivate and support children, staff and parents with the ability to think creatively and innovate in order to help to develop the Junior School in future years.

About St George's Junior School

We are an independent Roman Catholic co-educational day school for pupils aged 3 to 11 years. We seek to inspire a love of learning and to encourage all to fulfil their aspirations and potential within an atmosphere of mutual respect and compassion. We strive to promote our Josephite tradition which encourages a strong sense of all belonging to one family which encompasses the wider world.
 

Our recent ISI Inspection report found that results in national test at age eleven have been excellent in relation to the average for maintained primary schools. Pupils’ attitudes to their work are excellent. They are interested in their studies and obviously enjoy the many and varied opportunities which the staff provide for them, both within and outside the classroom. The majority of pupils transfer to the senior school at age 11, with several each year being offered scholarships. Good, and often outstanding, teaching contributes to the high standards which the pupils achieve.
 

The pupils’ personal qualities are excellent and the emphasis on promoting the values of the Josephite tradition results in pupils who are well mannered, polite and welcoming. A sense of community pervades the whole school and pupils are proud to be part of it. They show high levels of confidence when conversing with adults and are able to express their opinions in discussions with increasing maturity as they move up the school. Staff, both teaching and non-teaching, provide an excellent level of pastoral care and their example leads to the happy and purposeful atmosphere found in all parts of the school.
 

The school benefits from the excellent examples set by the senior leadership team and their dedication to ensuring that the ethos of the school is upheld. Governors are fully committed to the school and by regular and informed discussion play an important role in its development. They visit regularly and those governors who are priests visit to celebrate the weekly mass. Governors take their legal responsibilities very seriously and ensure that all statutory policies and procedures are in place, meeting all regulatory requirements. Parents and pupils show overwhelming support for the school, its leaders and its staff.
