With 684 children on roll and over 100 staff, Oldway is a large community in its own right.  The school is organised into different phases - Foundation, Lower School (years 1 ,2 and 3)  and Upper School (years 4,5 and 6). There are 3 classes in each Year group plus a Nursery, making 22 classes in all!

Oldway is a National Support School and a National Teaching School.  This means that we are committed to leading a group of schools, working with other partners including Exeter University and Plymouth University, to deliver high quality support for teachers and leaders at all stages in their careers.  This prestigious designation is awarded to “outstanding schools with a clear track record of substantial initial teacher training, leadership development and school improvement”. As a result, our pupils and staff benefit from the enthusiasm and creativity of some of the best teachers in the South West, including the best up and coming teachers of tomorrow

The Learning Environment

The recent completion of a superb £1.2 million sports hall and kitchen means that the school boasts facilities for learning that are second to none.  We are fortunate enough to have a large site in Paignton, right next to Oldway Mansion gardens, which encompasses playing fields, an indoor swimming pool, an enclosed safe-play area, an early-years activity garden, an outside classroom and several playgrounds in addition to well-equipped classrooms.  The new buildings themselves include purpose built accommodation for our foundation stage pupils, a conference centre and community rooms.  All this, combined with our existing facilities and the state-of-the-art technology in every classroom, means that Oldway Primary School really is a school for the future.

Curriculum, Learning and Teaching

Oldway Primary School provides a rich, broad, balanced and creative curriculum and believes that excellence in teaching leads to enjoyment of learning.  We define the curriculum as everything that impacts on the learning of our pupils.
Our curriculum gives Oldway a distinct identity and ethos, reflecting our values, our place within the local community of Paignton and an awareness of the wider world in which they live.  Above all, we aim to make our curriculum a hugely rich experience for all our pupils, laying the foundations for success in life.
