The school community at Bohunt is a happy one. The very great majority of pupils and students behave sensibly, support each other and develop exceptionally well as young people. Pupils behave very well. Ready for learning on entering lessons, they follow the expected routines and staff instructions. Excellent support is provided to any pupils needing help to behave well. – Ofsted, March 2024.

A rare opportunity has arisen to join the well-established and high performing Leadership Group at Bohunt School. Joining our team of 7, and well supported by the roles of Head of Upper School, Head of Lower School, 12 Heads of House, 60 tutors, over 120 teachers and a vast array of highly qualified and experienced non-teaching staff, we are seeking to appoint a talented leader to have the enviable role of working on student culture.

Bohunt School is a happy and exceptionally high performing School and Sixth Form, serving over 1800 students. Ofsted visited us in March 2024 and judged  Behaviour and Attitudes,  Personal Development and the 6th Form to be Outstanding. You will lead polite, curious, bright-eyed and well behaved young people, ably supported by our amazing families. In this role you will take strategic oversight of:

-      The pastoral system, including our House system

-      Rewards and student recognition

-      Behaviour for Learning, including our Reflection suite

-      And, have line management of both curriculum and welfare areas

In return, you will need to be:

-      Student-centred, knowing that every child deserves success

-      Enthusiastic, resilient and an excellent communicator

-      A team-player, but also a self-starter who sees things through to completion

-      Strategic in how you think and what you do

-      Experienced in a pastoral role.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with assertiveness as well as empathy to students. Being able to build and maintain mutually respectful relationships with staff, parents, and students alike is essential.

We know that leading in education is hard, but it is also immeasurably rewarding. We go the extra mile to support all our staff and leaders so that they can succeed.  Read on for just a few of the myriad reasons why you would be mad not to join us:

·        Our greatest strength is our people and we work hard to make sure you know that. Well-being is central to all we do – we have two dedicated reflection days for staff, early finishes for you to take the time you need, and, this year, we are trialling a two-week autumn break

·        Our students are exceptional: bright, inquisitive, respectful and diligent; they provide an environment where you can teach, and realise your leadership potential.

·        Not to mention the end of term social events, Easter eggs, advent calendars, and summer BBQ. Staff well-being  and making work an exciting place to be are at our core.

In addition, we offer:

  • A culture of bespoke professional development from our own Leadership Academy
  • The opportunity to make a difference
  • A free staff iPad
  • Benefit schemes (discounted gym membership, voucher savings and special offers)
  • The benefit of being part of a highly collaborative multi-academy trust, the support of experienced colleagues across our family of schools and great opportunities for further career progression.

Bohunt School is a mixed 11-18 School and Sixth Form with more than 1800 students on roll. We are the state school of choice for the local area and draw students from the surrounding region, including the counties of Surrey and West Sussex.

In 2013 we were rated as Outstanding in all categories by Ofsted and in 2014 we were named ‘Overall School of the Year’ by the Times. Due to our heritage as a Specialist Language College our curriculum maintains a strong international flavour, including immersion language teaching in Mandarin and French. We are a busy and vibrant school with high expectations and aspirations for all members of our learning community.

Bohunt School became founder of the Bohunt Education Trust (BET) in 2014.

BET is ambitious. Beyond running its individual schools highly successfully, we aim to transform education in Britain by sharing the experiences, insights and methods we’ve pioneered in own schools.

Teach at BET

BET recognises and nurtures your skills, talents and sense of vocation. As a BET teacher, you’ll be encouraged to explore and extend your own practice, through our innovative teaching methods and partnerships with business and industry. You’ll also enjoy fantastic opportunities for professional and subject-specific training and development to enhance both the classroom experience for your students and your own career progression.

Enjoy: At Bohunt enjoyable learning takes place in a stimulating, vibrant environment and within a framework of high expectation.

Respect: We promote a strong sense of self-worth combined with a respect for others. Consistently high expectations are embedded within an environment that is founded on mutually respectful relationships between students, staff and parents

Achieve: We are proud of our academic success and are one of the top performing state schools in the country. Our personalised curriculum provides students with an equality of opportunity that ensures all learners achieve, whatever their interests and strengths.

Bohunt School exists to meet the educational needs of all its students. Central to our philosophy is a belief that each individual is capable of making a positive and significant contribution to society.

Sixth Form

Bohunt Sixth Form opened in September 2017 in purpose built accommodation surrounded by open countryside, a short walk away from the main school. Bohunt Sixth Form offers inspirational opportunities for those who relish intellectual challenge, and support from expert staff who know students well.

Community

We are proud to serve our community by providing for its leisure, learning and social needs; our facilities are extensive and impressive and include squash courts, a floodlit artificial turf pitch and changing pavilion, a fully equipped fitness room and a sports hall.
