Job overview

About this Role

For September 2024, we are seeking to appoint a vibrant and dynamic Assistant Head to join our very successful Leadership Team. We are looking for someone who is ambitious not only for themselves but also for those in the broader school community – who has ideas and is able to turn vision into reality – and who also has outstanding personal and professional qualities.

It is an exciting time to be joining the SLT. We will be launching a new three-year school improvement and development plan which will support the students’ aspirations in terms of developing the skills and aptitudes for the world of work in the future.

This role will be central to those aspirations. This post is the one of the most senior in the school, next to the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. The core purpose of the post is to support them in:

  • providing professional leadership and management for the school
  • establishing high quality education by effectively managing teaching and learning and using personalised learning to realise the potential of all students, and
  • establishing a culture that promotes excellence, equality and high expectations.

We are looking for someone who:

  • is able to demonstrate exceptional leadership and management skills, and who brings a record of successful strategic innovation and school improvement, preferably in a high performing school
  • leads by example and acts as a strong role model with a positive, can-do attitude with staff and students
  • is an outstanding practitioner with a passion for learning and teaching
  • has a proven track record of enabling outstanding student achievement and development both through own practice and by leading other staff
  • is an effective team player and values every aspect of the life of the school
  • has outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire students, staff and parents
  • is an active learner, who constantly strives to improve, with the desire to progress

In return we can offer you:

  • outstanding professional support
  • opportunities for further career development and preparation for Deputy Headship
  • a school with an outstanding reputation for achievement and improvement
  • a vibrant and dynamic student community which deserves the very best teaching and support
  • a dedicated, highly professional and supportive Governing Body
  • the opportunity to work with highly professional, committed and ambitious colleagues across the community.

You will be a key member of the Senior Leadership team. Precise areas of responsibility for the Assistant Head within the SLT will be negotiated and decided according to the strengths and interests of the team members; therefore, no job description is included at this point in the process. However, due to the retirement of the current Progress and Wellbeing Lead, it is anticipated that the key focus for this new post will be student centred, to include safeguarding, behaviour and attitudes, as well as personal development.

This school is committed to safeguarding, equality of opportunity, and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An enhanced DBS check will be required.

As one of the top state schools in the UK, we believe in challenging and supporting our girls to make the most of every opportunity in their formal studies and beyond.  Stratford Girls’ Grammar School is a selective girls' 11 to 18 school with 816 girls on roll. The school added an extra form of entry in September 2013, and grew to capacity to 800 in 2017.  We are, therefore, still small enough as a secondary school to ensure that all the girls are known to us.  Pupils are drawn from an extremely wide catchment area: there is a priority circle with a 17 mile radius, and we also attract students from further afield - from Solihull to Banbury, Evesham to Kenilworth.

We are proud to be a single-sex girls' school, and always keen to promote girl-power!  We firmly believe that girls thrive in a nurturing all-girls' environment, developing self-esteem and the confidence to take on leadership roles - and research has shown that girls can and do achieve better academically in single-sex schools, too.
