Assistant Principal - IB MYP Programme Coordinator 

From 1 August 2025 

 

This role is an opportunity to be a curriculum and IB programme leader in ISL’s Secondary School. The appointee will shape curriculum content and delivery, assessment, and student data for students in Year 7 to Year 13. They are also a member of the school’s secondary and school-wide educational leadership team. The appointee will teach approximately 50%. All educational leadership team members are contractually required to work two weeks of the summer break. 

 

Main Responsibilities Assistant Principal 

  • Appraisals of heads of departments, new teachers, and occasionally MYP teachers on support pathways. 
  • Coordination of Heads of Department - with IB Diploma Coordinator, leading secondary-school initiatives such as assessment policies and procedures, reporting cycle, AI, and review of subject time allocation. 
  • Academic integrity - responding to issues raised by teachers, leading assemblies for students, coordinating tools for flagging issues, writing and responding to incident reports, conducting parent meetings in response to issues, and tracking students. 
  • Assessment procedures - coordinating review of data entry for semester reports, semester data checks, and ensuring moderation procedures are followed. 
  • External testing - coordinating annual testing of students (ISAs, MAPs), communicating with parents, and supporting the scheduling of tests. 
  • Whole-school initiatives - leading or supporting initiatives such as AI, Learning Principles, Homework, Dual-Language programme, reporting cycle review. 
  • MYP options process - coordinating options process in Year 8 to Year 11, online information evenings, responding to student course change requests, supporting the timetabling of option blocks. 
  • Data for Learning - collecting, analysing and reporting to stakeholders on student data for learning. 

 

Main Responsibilities IB MYP Coordinator 

  • Written curriculum - co-ordinating the development of three levels of curriculum: 
  • Co-leading whole school curriculum review with the PYP and Diploma Coordinator 
  • Co-leading academic transitions into and out of the MYP with the PYP and Diploma Coordinator 
  • Supporting new MYP students, parents and teachers 
  • Policy updates - revision and update of all relevant IB policies: language, assessment, academic integrity, learning support; additional ISL policies: homework, guide to citation 
  • MYP Core - supporting the development of core aspects of the MYP: 

- Service learning 

- Approaches to Learning 

- Personal Project (supporting student workshops, new supervisors, PP week in January, moderation process, supervisor pairings, PP exhibition) 

- Interdisciplinary units 

  • Google Classroom - managing the school’s learning management systems 
  • Managebac - reminders to teachers, ensuring the platform is used for MYP service and Personal Project 
  • Leading IB Continuum self-study - along with PYP and DP Coordinators, running the self-study during pre-evaluation visits. 

 

Desired profile  

  • At least three years of teaching experience within the Middle Years Programme (MYP) or a similar curriculum is expected. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in individual settings and with large groups. 
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the IB MYP curriculum/ framework (including philosophy, curriculum, assessment strategies, etc.) 
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of ISL 
  • A forward-thinking approach with a commitment to innovation in education 
  • Adaptability, cultural sensitivity, empathy, and problem-solving skills 
  • Proficiency in English. Knowledge of French is an advantage. 
  • Well-developed leadership skills 
  • The ability to contribute to the strategic vision and direction of the school and lead cross-school initiatives. 
  • Experience of transition between IB programmes or of students entering and leaving 11 to 16-year-old education is an asset. 
  • Previous experience in curriculum/instructional or well-being leadership roles at ISL or a prior school is an asset.
