Job Title: Assistant SENDCO

Location: Oak Tree School, Truro

Salary:   Up to £30,000 per annum

Hours:   42.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm

Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Assistant SENDCO to join our close-knit team at Oak Tree School located in Truro.

Purpose of the Job:

• Take a lead on student passports, ensuring staff are keeping them up to date and relevant, minimum termly ideally half termly.
• Attend, support, and lead on annual reviews depending on the nature of the review.
• Look at annual reviews for primary and secondary and arrange reviews going forward.
• Support in the organisation and completion of pre-review paperwork.
• Complete paperwork as necessary following reviews (initially with guidance)

Knowledge and Understanding:

 The position holder is to have knowledge and understanding of:

•  The school’s aims, priorities, targets, curriculum policies, and local offers.
• Any statutory curriculum requirements and the requirements for assessment, recording, and reporting of pupils.
• The characteristics of high-quality teaching and the main strategies for improving and sustaining high standards of practice and achievement for all pupils.
• The implications of the code of practice of special educational needs for teaching and learning, to reduce students' barriers to learning and education and psychological, physical, sensory, social communication and interaction development leading to all pupils achieving their full potential.
• The school's Code of Conduct
• Support strategies to manage SEMH issues and challenging behaviour, such as Emotion Coaching, P.A.C.E approach, and any other relevant and current strategies

Oak Tree School in Truro has recently expanded and developed two new buildings and undergone a successful inspection from Ofsted allowing us to offer a wider age range of pupils from 5 – 18 years the opportunity to have the best education possible. Oak Tree School is a specialist SEMH provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 pupils and young people aged 5 to 18 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These pupils and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.
