Bedford Modern School is an Independent Co-educational Day School. There are in excess of 1200 students in the School from age 7 to 18. The School is governed by the Harpur Trust.

Living and working in Bedford

Bedford is a lively, dynamic place to live and work. The town is a former market town, and enjoys some fine historic buildings dating back many centuries. However, the town is certainly not stuck in the past, with a vibrant university student population as well as numerous schools in the area giving the town a youthful feel. There are many idyllic villages outside of the town itself.

Bedford is only 40 minutes from London St Pancras by train, and benefits from a 24 hour train line both to and from London. The town is around 30 minutes’ drive from London Luton airport, and is also on the train line to London Gatwick south of London. Cambridge is one hour away by car and Milton Keynes is around 30 minutes, whilst Birmingham, Nottingham, Oxford and the Cotswolds are easy day trips.

Bedford offers very good value for money with property, and now would be a good time to invest in the area. House property prices in the UK rose quickest in the East of England last year, but there are still three bedroom houses available for under £250,000 – something rare for a town so close to London as mentioned. There are plans for a connecting train line to be re-established linking Cambridge to Oxford with Bedford the mid-way point, which will only surely increase the value of Bedford property in the coming years and increase the town’s connectivity to the south-east of England and London.

At Bedford Modern School there is a wide and varied curriculum that is responsive to the needs of students and parents. The facilities are excellent: a separate Junior School, dedicated Sixth Form building, faculties clustered throughout the School and extensive and impressive sports facilities.

The School offers a premium education appropriate to both boys and girls where the intellectual needs of each student are a priority. Individuals are assessed at entry and those with particular gifts or learning needs are identified and monitored. Students are encouraged to maximize their academic potential whilst optimizing their participation in the diverse and inclusive Co-curricular Programme. Pastoral care is integral to the success of the School and all staff are expected to contribute to this supportive culture.

The School enjoys a reputation both locally and regionally for excellence in the Performing Arts and Sport. It is a particularly friendly, happy and supportive school community.
