Associate Assistant Headteacher - English & Languages Faculty

Salary range: between 57482 and 61882

Pay details: Pay grade L9 - L12

Start date: September 2024

At Fearnhill we know that great leaders make a real difference to the life chances of young people every day. We are committed to creating the best working conditions for our teachers so that they love their work and, as a result, have a positive impact on all our students. Following the promotion of the current post-holder to Vice Principal in another local school, we are looking for an ambitious and knowledgeable English teacher to join our English and Languages faculty as an Associate Assistant Headteacher and Head of Department. The role involves oversight of curriculum and assessment across the faculty, working with teachers and subject leaders to secure great outcomes for students. Associate Assistant Headteachers are also part of the leadership team and take on specific responsibilities to contribute towards whole school improvement. The role represents an ideal career opportunity for future roles in senior leadership, as demonstrated by the success of the current post-holder.  As a school we exist to develop successful Fearnhill Students by removing barriers to progress, ensuring high achievement for all. To find out more about how we do things at Fearnhill, read our leadership values statement here: https://fearnhill.herts.sch.uk/news-events/staff-vacancies/. Fearnhill has undergone rapid and sustained improvement over the last 5 years. You can find out more about our exam results and read our Ofsted report here: https://schoolslikeyours.ffteducationdatalab.org.uk/ks4/ https://www.gov.uk/school-performance-tables https://files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50199435 The English & Languages faculty includes English, French, Spanish, Media Studies & Drama. Fearnhill is a great place to work because we value every member of the school community. The relationships that exist between students and staff are strong and the school is typically a happy environment. We care about reducing teacher workload so that teachers have time for a life outside of work. For example we have no written marking, no written reports, fewer data cycles, no formal lesson observations, no appraisal targets and centralised detentions to ensure teachers’ time is not wasted. We recognise that poor behaviour makes teaching an unpleasant experience and prevents students from learning. We have high expectations of our students and effectively hold them to account when their behaviour falls below these standards. As a result, teachers are well respected and lessons are rarely disrupted. Finally, we prioritise high quality professional development for our teachers and leaders. We take pride in our shared knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning and support our staff to develop their expertise and grow in confidence as professionals. If you are interested in this role please email Head’s PA Jacqui.simmonds10@fearnhill.herts.sch.uk to arrange an informal visit at a time that suits you in January, or complete the application form on the school website. We look forward to meeting you.

We reserve the right to close the advert should we feel able to appoint an appropriate candidate.

Fearnhill School is committed to recruiting with care and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people; we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA barred list for children, plus verification of the right to work in the UK.
