We welcome applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and no faith, and who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.
Are you self-motivated, do you have an enquiring mind and a strong attention to detail, great problem solving skills and enjoy working in a small busy team? Do you have a passion to work with others to ensure that young people have the right access to education and opportunities? We seek a suitably motivated individual to be appointed as Attendance Officer, who will be responsible for daily attendance monitoring and providing administrative support to the Leadership and Pastoral team.
This is not just “any other admin role” in a school.
As an Attendance Officer, you will help raise achievement by improving attendance and punctuality; you will support safeguarding by identifying and notifying relevant parties of individual concerns regarding pupil attendance and punctuality. You will be supporting the promotion of positive attitudes by pupils and their families towards education and be required to contact parents if an explanation for absence is not received.
As Attendance Officer you will be responsible for the monitoring of whole school attendance, identifying and flagging trends and patterns and administration of other matters as relevant to the role.
You will be required to monitor and administer daily attendance and punctuality, checking each morning and contacting home if students are not in school, working collaboratively with form tutors and other staff to ensure that presence, lateness, unauthorised/authorised absence is recorded accurately and reliably in accordance with School Policies.
The role will involve accurately compiling, maintaining and analysing records, timely reconciliations and checks, notifying staff of unexplained absences, preparation of reports, ad hoc data analysis and other administrative or project work as required to support the function. You should be proficient in word and excel, a confident and quick learner, willing to learn new skills and software and be confident in the compilation and accuracy of attendance information. Previous knowledge of sims and/or experience of working in a school or other educational setting would be an advantage but is not essential.
St Mary’s Catholic School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS Disclosure is required for all successful applicants. An application form (Support Staff) and further details can be found at http://www.stmarys.net/about-us/vacancies/ . Only applications on the school application form can be considered. St Mary’s is committed to the quality of opportunity for all applicants.
Applicants will be shortlisted and interviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, an early application is advised.

Welcome
St. Mary’s has a strong tradition of providing an authentic education which aims to deliver excellence for every member of our Catholic community. It is our mission to build on that tradition as we develop the school still further over the years ahead.
Our school is built upon an ambitious mission for each and every young person: to fulfil academic potential; to be fully developed in the personal, social and spiritual areas of life; to achieve excellence in every area of life; and to be underpinned by Gospel Values, enabling each person to value individuals and contribute positively to society. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to ensure that this mission is accomplished in the lives of all our young people, and in so doing, enable those young people to live life to the full.
The aims of the school are:
• the formation of our young people according to Gospel values;
• the fulfilment of the potential of our pupils in all aspects of the curriculum;
• the personal, social and spiritual development of our pupils into responsible, generous and caring members of society;
• the achievement of all these within a culture of respect and appreciation for the worth and contribution of each member of our school and its wider community.
In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students. These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
