King’s Bruton is an HMC co-educational boarding and day school of 360 pupils aged 13-18.

King’s Bruton is seeking to appoint an energetic, inspirational and committed Housemaster. At King’s there are 186 boys split across three boarding houses, with all 3 houses containing both day and boarding pupils. This vacancy is in Blackford House and presents an exciting opportunity to lead a very successful boarding house of 60 boys (13-18).

The Housemaster will provide a positive family orientated atmosphere in the boarding house and look to provide pupils with the support and encouragement that they require to thrive both at King’s, and beyond. The Housemaster will be a key role model for our boys and should inspire them to achieve in all areas of school life. The Housemaster will be expected to lead a team of academic and resident tutors that aim to deliver exceptional pastoral care and academic support to the boys in the boarding house.

The successful applicant is expected to have a strong background in providing pastoral support, looking to utilise the experience that they have developed to help support the boys in the boarding house. We are looking for a Housemaster that will help to further strengthen the outstanding pastoral support provided to all pupils at King’s.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, well organised, dynamic and caring person, that will be willing to commit to the life of a full boarding school. Strong administrative and communication skills will be required to lead and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the House. You will be expected to commit to the ethos of a full boarding school, contributing to the extra-curricular programme, supporting school events and playing a key role in a very vibrant and supportive community.

All Housemistresses/ Housemasters at King’s also teach a reduced timetable. For this position, all subjects will be considered.

This is a residential role and rent-free family accommodation is provided attached to the boarding house.

The primary responsibility of the Housemaster is to maintain the highest standards of Safeguarding and Child Protection for the students both in their house and across the school, whilst fostering and promoting the welfare of pupils.

King’s Bruton is a mixed independent school with sixth form in the Somerset town of Bruton. Students attend the school from the ages of 13 to 18, with the option to board throughout their school careers. There are approximately 370 students on roll. The Somerset school operates in partnership with Hazlegrove Preparatory School, in nearby Sparkford.

King’s Bruton was founded as a boys' school in 1519, admitting girls in the late 1960s before becoming fully co-educational in 1997.
