Job Title: Boarding Weekend Supervisor

Department: Boarding

Responsible to: Senior Houseparent

 

Purpose of the job:

The main purpose of the job is to help look after the safety and welfare of the students in the boarding houses.

Boarding Supervisors are responsible to the Senior House Parent. They are expected to remain in the halls of residence for the duration of their weekend shift. Boarding Supervisors must supervise students within the halls of residence, registering students at key points throughout the day and overseeing students signing in and out. Boarding Supervisors are responsible for looking after an unwell student in the house with regular welfare checks and ensuring that all students welfare is being promoted. In the evenings Boarding Supervisors are encouraged to run small house activities and engage with the students.

Appropriate staff training and induction will be given to cover CPOMS, Safeguarding, First Aid, Fire Training and Child Protection.

Working hours

Saturday and/or Sundays during term time

10.00am – 10.00pm

Organisation of the House

●            Positively promote staff presence in the boarding houses. 

●            Monitor students signing in and out.

●            Report any concerns using CPOMS.

Social & Pastoral Welfare

  • Be present in the boarding houses
  • Make sure that the students are safe and that their welfare is given top priority.
  • Support the pastoral team in creating a warm and friendly atmosphere and fostering a happy community spirit, especially for students newly arrived at the College
  • Promote an environment where the students feel heard and suggestions on how to improve life in boarding can be improved.
  • Complete training in Safeguarding, Child Protection, First Aid and Fire Marshalling and any other areas relevant to the safe running of the boarding house.
  • Read, understand, and sign all relevant school policies and procedures (safeguarding, bullying policy, online safety, etc.)
  • Work extensively as part of a team and report any student concerns as and when these arise to the Head of Boarding and the relevant House Manager (if the latter is appropriate).
  • Uphold the rules of the house and pass on breaches of the rules to the House Manager.
  • Accompanying students to hospital when required.
  • Take responsibility for checking the common room

·        Take responsibility for checking that students are signing in and out to establish whether students are present/ absent within time limits/ absent beyond time limits.

  • Record the time of visiting each hall, together with any relevant comments that can be useful for the returning house manager.
  • Provide students with any assistance they require.
  • Provide first aid as required.
  • Administer medication as required
  • To follow fire safety and evacuation procedures if required.

  • Sign and comply with the College Code of Conduct.

Terms & Conditions

1.            Remuneration:   £12.50 per hour

2.            Contract:             part time, fixed term contract from September to June (inclusive), renewable at the                                                                                discretion of the college.

3.            Notice period:    1 month

4.            Probationary period:        3 months reviewable at discretion of St. Andrew’s College.

St Andrew’s College Cambridge was formed in 1976 as a tutorial college offering a warm, friendly international environment for students wanting to study in the UK prior to university.  The college currently comprises students from 25 countries worldwide attending its Pre-A Level, A Level and University Foundation courses and has significant expertise in looking after international students and making them feel at home.
