Start date: September 2023 (earlier if possible and the suitable candidate is available in either January 2023 or April 2023)

We are seeking an exceptional school Principal to offer leadership of learning, lead the day-to-day operations of El Alsson British International School, New Giza, play a major role in our strategic planning, and work effectively as a member of the whole school Leadership Team.

Established in 1982, El Alsson British and American International School is a leading and highly reputable international school situated on the western side of Cairo, Egypt. The school is a multi-programme school following British and American education on the same campus. The British School follows the English National Curriculum and the International Early Years & Primary Curricula, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, IGCSE & GCSE and GCE and IAL qualifications for students from FS1 to Year 13. Children at El Alsson are happy and achieve high academic standards.

The school is situated in a state-of-the-art campus on the Giza Plateau in the new development of New Giza. El Alsson is a member of the British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) and is an accredited BSO school and a Council of International Schools (CIS) member school. Our school is a progressive educational environment that values its staff and students, and challenges them to produce their best daily. Our students are high achieving and vibrant, and the school enjoys good relationships with parents and the local community.

The successful candidate will be wholeheartedly committed to ensuring outstanding student experiences and outcomes across the British School and will work collaboratively and strategically with all members of the wider campus.  

The successful applicant will:

  • Embed and communicate the school’s mission and vision and expectations through leading school improvement planning, involving the School Directors, SLT, teachers and students as appropriate, to achieve clarity and consensus.
  • Continue the excellent work of the current Principal, Matt Topliss, in the continuous improvement of the school, the development of its reputation and its contribution to international education in Egypt and the wider region. 
  • Lead the strategic direction of the school so that it meets the needs of the school’s mission and vision in collaboration with the School Directors, El Alsson American International School and the SLT
  • Lead, monitor and evaluate the work of the British school leadership team in planning, coordinating, and evaluating the school’s progress to ensure that the welfare, progress and attainment of students meet the expectations of the school as well as of individual students and parents.
  • Promote and participate in teachers’ professional development and well-being, both formal and informal, ensuring that it takes account of the school’s goals, individual needs, and best practice in British International Schools and the UK.
  • Ensure an orderly and supportive environment and provision, by developing appropriate policies and procedures and ensuring their consistent application, to promote suitable conditions for effective teaching, learning and social development.
  • Model outstanding leadership to all stakeholders and set the example for all staff, parents, and students at all times. Develop excellent working relationships with students, parents and staff and ensure this is the cornerstone of the school at all levels.        
  • Provide high-quality learning experiences for all students.                     
  • Create a culture where collaborative, progressive learning is highly valued amongst staff and students.   
  • Develop strong working relationships, trust and confidence with students, teachers, and parents.  
  • Demonstrate significant leadership experience in a British-style international school and be able to evidence significant school transformation, staff development and contextual awareness.

El  Alsson British and American International Schools NEW GIZA is a private international school offering the choice between British and American education. The British School follows both the English National Curriculum and the International Early Years & Primary Curriculum, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, IGCSE & GCSE and GCE and IAL qualifications for students from FS1 to Year 13. The school also teaches the Egyptian national curriculum for Arabic studies, Social studies and Religion. Children at El Alsson are happy and achieve high academic standards and are respectful to all and  be tolerant to those in the diverse community they live within.
