Job overview

We are looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Business Studies teacher with experience of Business Studies exams for January 2025.

The British School Algiers, the first British international school in Algeria, opened in November 2020 following a joint agreement between the Algerian and British governments and we are now in our fourth year of operation and have moved to new premises in September 22 due to increasing demand for places. In 2022 we had our first BSO inspection which was very successful and which you can view on our website.

We are a 4 to 18 school, and we follow the English National Curriculum tailored to an International School setting.  Students follow IGCSE and A-level English courses

Candidates must hold a PGCE or B.Ed. or equivalent. Candidates must also have experience of either teaching in the UK or an accredited British international school and be a UK national. NQTs (ECTs) will be considered. Candidates should have experience of teaching IGCSE English - First Language.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively, building strong relationships with all members of the school community and be looking to develop their teaching career in an international setting. The person appointed must be ready to play their part in the continuing establishment of the ethos of this relatively new school. This post requires energetic and committed solution-focussed team players who can motivate and inspire students to reach their maximum potential.

We are committed to ensuring excellent learning and teaching in a caring environment. You will find the school a rewarding and friendly place to work with good relationships between staff and students.

Algiers is a bustling, friendly, and cosmopolitan city on the Mediterranean, full of historical interest and within easy reach of the UK and Europe. Life for teachers is pleasant with a low cost of living and good shops, cafes, and restaurants. Algeria a generally unexplored country for outsiders and would appeal to teachers who are interested in a country which is a bit different. Teachers are able to save a good proportion of their salary and, at the same time, enjoy exploring Algeria. The package includes a high quality apartment and a relocation allowance of £500.

Learn More About the School

The British School Algiers, the first British international school in Algeria, opened in November 2020. Approval to establish the school was granted under a joint agreement between the Algerian and British governments signed in March this year.

This co-educational day school is for 4 to 18-year-olds. Our students are British, Algerian and from all over the world. The school follows the English National Curriculum and students take IGCSEs and A-levels.

Whilst the British School Algiers school is an independent school, it is under the supervision of the British Embassy, Algiers. The Embassy requires the school to be registered and inspected under the UK government's British Schools Overseas(BOS) scheme.

Further information on the curriculum can be found on the school website; www.britishschoolalgiers.com/about-us/curriculum

Students are to take the initiative and responsibility for organising extra-curricular activities. In this way they can create opportunities for themselves and their fellow classmates to broaden their range of skills and interests. The school is in the process of becoming an independent award centre for the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.
