Job description:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Careers and University Counselor to join our team and provide advice, guidance and resources to support students with their post IB studies. The ideal candidate will have a passion for making a positive impact in the lives of young people. A thorough understanding of admissions in Europe, UK, USA, Canada, and Asia is important; Knowledge of the Portuguese university requirements and application process will be an asset.


Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with universities, colleges, vocational schools, and other post-secondary institutions globally.
  • Organize college fairs, visits, and information sessions with representatives from partner institutions.
  • Keep abreast of changes in admission requirements, scholarships, and trends in higher education.
  • Act as an advocate for students during the college application process, ensuring fairness and equity in admissions.
  • Guide students and families in understanding realistic expectations regarding college choices aligned with their academic preparedness and achievements.
  • Provide support to students in setting achievable goals and identifying suitable college options that match their academic strengths and interests.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and parents to foster an environment that encourages students to set and attain realistic academic and career aspirations.

Requirements:

  • A degree pertinent to the position along with teaching or equivalent professional credentials. ·
  • A well-informed and current grasp of Higher Education systems and practices in career education.
  • Proficiency in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Portuguese would be an asset
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology to facilitate applications 
  • At least 3 years of experience providing counseling services in a school or related setting
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with a team and a commitment to ongoing professional development
