We have a vacancy for a Catering Assistant to join our excellent catering Team, working from 10.45AM to 2.15PM term time plus INSET days (39 weeks). This is a varied and interesting position that offers the opportunity to assist in the preparation of hot and cold meals for students and staff and our feeder primary schools, serve in the Servery at break and lunch times and help keep the kitchen clean and tidy and hygienic following the guidance of the Food Standards Agency.
We are looking for outstanding individuals who will relish the opportunity to:
- Work with a friendly team in a busy and fast paced catering environment
- Assist with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat to a high standard following Food Standards Agency guidance and practices
- Assist in the servery, taking money and ipay transactions for staff and students
- Keep up to date with current relevant legal requirements and food safety regulations
You are likely to be someone who:
- Is reliable and self-motivated with a responsive and reflective approach to work
- Has previous experience in catering and industrial kitchen environments (or relative experience)
- Has Level 2 Food and Hygiene qualification (or be willing to train)
- Has COSHH and Manual Handling qualifications (or be willing to train)
- Understands the working of The Children’s Food Trust and promotes healthy eating options for children
- Understands food allergens and safe food handling practices
- Has some flexibility to cover staff absences and occasionally work additional hours where required
- Can offer excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working within a busy team

Wadham School is a mixed comprehensive, Church of England secondary school in the town of Crewkerne in South Somerset. It is a voluntary controlled state school under the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
In September 2022 the school increased in size with the addition of pupils from Years 7 and 8 as part of the local area reform. The school is now a thriving 11-18 secondary school with a Sixth Form.
