Chief Executive Officer

Sheffield
At Mercia Learning Trust, we believe that if education is about anything, it is about social mobility and social justice. We are a 2-18+ cross-phase Trust working across south and southwest Sheffield, serving a diverse range of communities. Our mission is simple: to ensure every child, irrespective of background, starting point or need, attends an exceptional school.
Our six (soon to be seven) schools are very effective, continuously improving, and over-subscribed. Several are sector-leading at a city, regional and national level, and we are especially focused on our vulnerable children. Our expert practitioners have a strong reputation, and we’re proud of the inclusive, warm, and welcoming atmosphere in our schools, where all pupils feel happy, safe and can flourish.
For us, flourishing also means being part of a vibrant school community, where exceptional behaviour, kindness and respect are the norm, and where pupils want to work hard and succeed. We operate a model of ‘aligned autonomy’: each school retains its authentic identity, in its own context and community, and we celebrate difference. The common theme is that we all embrace an improvement journey through which we become exceptional.
Our retiring CEO has built an exceptionally strong, capable and highly effective multi-academy trust, rooted in its communities and unshakeably focused on getting better at what we do. At its heart, this job is about leading a passionate and skilled team to secure the precious future of every child, and to use the impact of a great education to transform their life chances.
We are looking for someone who appreciates our potential, shares our values, and brings the outstanding professional repertoire needed to take us into the next phase of our journey. You’ll be an inspiring and credible educational changemaker, with extensive experience in school leadership and improvement, understand how to lead a complex organisation as well as the skills and knowledge to maximise the long-term social impact of a high-performing Trust.
Mercia Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates will undertake Enhanced Disclosure. Mercia Learning Trust is an equal opportunities employer. We value our diverse workforce and aim to work together to make the most of our differences. We welcome applications from everyone. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria of this job are guaranteed an interview.
