We have challenging and rigorous academic expectations based on the National Curriculum for England, in an inclusive environment where barriers to learning are identified, appreciated and overcome together. We aim to develop the leaders of the future, by surrounding children with opportunities to innovate, critically reflect, collaborate and take ownership of their own learning processes and outcomes.
Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the KHDA since 2018/19, our inclusive community welcomes over 80 nationalities. Horizon is a forward-thinking school, which embraces new opportunities within learning and teaching. About Horizon English School

Founded in 1989, Horizon English School is one of the longest standing British schools in Dubai. Nestled in the heart of Jumeirah, Horizon is home to an international community of over 1000 children and almost 200 colleagues. Our school has been rated as outstanding by the KHDA and BSO for several years and is accredited with BSME (British Schools in the Middle East).
We use the horizon as a metaphor for getting better. No matter how close we try to get to the horizon, it keeps on moving; and no matter how great our school becomes, we can always to better. Specifically, we pursue three horizons:
• A flourishing community
• An evolving curriculum
• Serving our community
Somewhat unusually for an international British school, we are a primary school only which means our entire leadership team is expert in early education. As such, children achieve incredible outcomes, but they do so the right way. Our unconditional focus on wellbeing and authentic happiness means that children flourish not just academically, but socially, emotionally, physically and in the arts, meaning that when the time comes to move on to secondary school, they are equipped to thrive whatever their destination.
We have strong beliefs at Horizon about what makes great teaching, what makes great leadership and what makes a great school. As such, we have a very strong professional development offer, further amplified by being part of the Cognita family of schools. Just as we focus on wellbeing and happiness of children, so to for colleagues, building what we do on the PERMA model of authentic happiness. As such, our staff retention is very high and our staff survey results are world class. Our commitment in these areas has been recognised in recent years with the award of the Happiest School in the UAE (Schools Compared) and Staff Wellbeing Initiative of the Year (TES International) as well as regularly making the top schools in Dubai list (Which Schools Advisor).
