About the role

Rockingham Primary School is looking to employ a dedicated and hardworking cleaner to join our existing team.

We are looking for a friendly and competent individual, preferably with some experience of cleaning in schools, hospitals or commercial premises. The successful candidate will be required to follow and adhere to a cleaning schedule to ensure that the premises are cleaned and tidied to the highest standard and to create a pleasant environment for both staff and pupils in the school. You will need the ability to work with limited supervision, be physically fit as the job will involve some lifting and carrying and have an awareness to all Health & Safety policies and procedures. A list of duties is listed below:

  • To carry out daily cleaning in allocated areas as directed by the Site Supervisor or 
  • Assistant Headteacher
  •  To keep designated area clean and safe for pupils

  • To vacuum all carpeted areas and to wash or mop the floors of the cloakrooms and toilets in designated areas.
  • To sweep and mop spillages in corridors and social areas.
  • Remove litter from entrance areas, including mat wells as necessary.
  • To undertake regular cleaning of toilets, including dealing with minor acts of vandalism.
  • To undertake the daily stocking of toilets with soap, towels and paper, within areas of 
  • responsibility.
  • To clean telephones, computers, printers and associated equipment on a routine basis.
  • To clean whiteboards and noticeboards, if requested.
  • To ensure windows are closed and heaters turned off in classrooms
  • To be aware of their responsibilities for Health & Safety of themselves and others.
  • To ensure that all tasks are undertaken comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act and COSSH Regulations.
  • To undertake a 10 hour deep clean of your allocated area during the summer holidays.

Who we are looking for 

  • Ability to communicate clearly, understand and follow instructions.
  • Experience of undertaking general cleaning duties.
  • Ability to carry out cleaning duties as detailed in the job description.
  • Good knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials and chemicals.
  • To be punctual and reliable.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to complete tasks to a high level.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision or as part of a team.
  • Be flexible, trustworthy, maintaining confidentiality at all times in respect of school related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Aware of Health and Safety and Safeguarding as appropriate to the role.
  • Take pride in a job well done, committed to achieving high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • This post will require an Enhanced DBS Clearance check.
