At Beech Lodge we provide an innovative and nurturing approach to education for those children who require an individually tailored learning environment to reach their academic potential, build social and life skills, have access to therapeutic and specialist interventions and above all the educational tools with which to flourish. Our pupils have a range of special educational needs that mean they are unable to thrive in mainstream, Social and Emotional Difficulties related to their developmental trauma, ASD, Anxiety, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. We do not cater for children with violent or aggressive behaviour.

Attachment theory underpins our entire school approach with a focus on the importance of relationships embedded throughout the whole school community. Alongside pupils’ academic progress, social and emotional development is a high priority at Beech Lodge, and it is from here that Fagus, the UK schools-wide educational resource for emotional and social development was created.

The School’s last Integrated ISI Inspection (November 2024) from which our excellent work was recognised. Amongst the myriad of excellent qualities, the report highlights include:

“Pupils wellbeing is central to all aspects of school life.

“The school’s comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach very successfully combines education and care and is based upon a deep understanding of attachment theory and pupil’s emotional need. This is a significant strength.”

“Pupils value attending school, being able to communicate with others and having the time, space and support they need to develop themselves”

“Through continual positive support, pupils became aware of their strengths and set themselves aspirational, achievable goals. Pupils learn to look beyond the school and to envisage a future where they can continue to grow and contribute to society.

“Pupils learn to look beyond the school and to envisage a future where they can continue to grow and contribute to society.”

Beech Lodge was always intended to be a school with a different approach, a unique high-quality setting that puts the particular needs of our pupils first. We are very proud to have successfully achieved that aim.
