We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Curriculum Leader of Computer Science who is knowledgeable and passionate about their subject.

An exciting and fulfilling opportunity exists for a passionate and knowledgeable teacher and leader to join a talented and committed computing team, at Cove School in Hampshire.

We are looking for a person to teach 11-16-year-old children computer science and expand the curriculum offer in years to come. Cove School has a high number of pupils who opt for the subject and we have strong links with local industries, universities and British / European space agency.  

We are a forward-thinking school with a strong sense of community and care for staff and pupils. You will lead a small dedicated specialist team, whilst supporting whole school STEM and e-learning initiatives. Our aim, quite simply, is to make sure that every child, in every lesson is cared for and achieves academic excellence. That is at the heart of what we believe and try to live up to.

We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:

  • Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academically
  • Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupils
  • Have excellent subject knowledge
  • Be willing to teach across the full age range of pupils; year 7 to year 11
  • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the Department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
  • Work across the school to develop e-learning and be part of STEM initiatives
  • Make a positive contribution to the efficient running of the Department, including, setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks.
  • Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • Support the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learning
  • Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures

Person Specification:

·        Good level degree in a directly related subject (desirable)

·        Thorough knowledge of the (13-16) subject Curriculum (GCSE)

·        Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience

·        Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice

·        Good level of IT literacy

·        Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school

·        Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils

·        Excellent and effective classroom management skills

·        Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors

·        Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines

·        Have a good sense of humour

Cove School is a larger than average 11-16 secondary co-educational establishment, located in the north of Hampshire. We are a local authority school within easy commute of London, the historic city of Winchester and the beautiful scenery of the New Forest.
