This is both an exciting and challenging role for the right candidate with the complimentary values, attitude and communication skills to play a key role in providing assurance that GDPR requirements are compliant and maintained in line with regulations.      

You will be responsible for data protection across the Group, ensuring systems and controls are in place together with supporting the Group's corporate risk management and monitoring processes.  

Responsibilities will include:     

Provide continued guidance, support and leadership on current and impending data protection legislation and regulation across the College.  

Identify and implement the work required to bring the College up to standards required by the GDPR and put in place processes to ensure continued compliance.  

Carry out regular risk assessments of the handling of data and maintain and update the risk register.  

Create and maintain data protection policies and procedures.  

Maintain evidential records of compliance with current legislation.  

Support a programme of staff awareness training, to deliver compliance and foster a culture of data privacy within the organisation.  

Review commercial agreements and contracts including data processing agreements with existing and future data processors.  

Revise and lead data breach response and notification procedures.  

The successful candidate will have:     

Experience with adhering to, implementing and auditing a data protection strategy and associated policies  

Knowledge of GDPR  

Designing and implementing employee training in relation to data protection  Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or willing to work towards

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
