Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester, which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

We are looking for a Deputy Director of Personnel to join the Personnel and Payroll team. The post-holder will actively support the Director of Personnel covering all aspects of personnel operations and payroll. We seek applicants who can demonstrate confidence and who have previous experience in a personnel role. The successful person will be confident and understand the need for accuracy, good communication and prioritisation within their role. This is a newly formed role, supporting the Director of Personnel and joining a team of 5 skilled, friendly colleagues.

We offer a supportive working environment with the opportunity to use a broad range of Personnel and Payroll skills as we have a staff of 800, with an in-house payroll.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer any remote working or hybrid arrangement as we are a front-facing service for the staff of the College.

Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.

Closing date: Monday 5th August 2024

Interview date: w/c 12th August 2024

We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.

Values and vision

'Counting in Ones' is our motto and is the key principle which guides everything we do. Value added is good and the large majority of our students progress to higher education, many to Russell Group universities. A large number of our students each year, usually around fifty, are able to secure places at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Pastoral support is well resourced and students also benefit from an unusual range of music, sporting and other enrichment opportunities.
