Leeds Sixth Form College is looking for a Deputy Head - Academics. The role involves the curriculum management responsibilities for three areas within the A Level provision; Humanities, Creative and Social Sciences. It would suit someone who has previous line management experience and would welcome the challenge of managing a larger team alongside a clear focus on TLA priorities based on their own subject expertise.
Leeds Sixth Form College is a combined provision of A Levels and vocational courses which provides a diverse range of full-time education programmes for learners aged 16-18 and adult learners aged 19+. The provision ranges from Level 2 to Level 3 and includes both traditional academic and vocational pathways.
For 16-18 year olds the curriculum includes over 20 A Level subjects as well as a range of BTEC courses with different weightings, to ensure we develop learners in a wide variety of subject areas to meet local employer and skill needs. We complement this with a GCSE-focused provision to further widen opportunities for local learners.
What You Will Do
- Support the Assistant Principal in all aspects of the Departments leadership and management, particularly around quality, teaching, learning and assessment and securing outstanding outcomes for students.
- Be a role model across the Department for outstanding teaching and learning.
- Performance manage lecturers and other staff within the Department and ensure that they develop their professional practice.
- Ensure the Department is efficiently run and delivers its financial contribution targets.
- Ensure that all courses within the Department are run effectively and meet awarding body, funding and quality agency requirements.
- Lead on all aspects for a defined section of provision within the Department, including: Ensuring its curriculum is responsive to national and local priorities, adapting and developing provision to meet local demands, responding to funding changes and develop provision in growth areas and securing outstanding outcomes for students and employers.
About You
- Hold a L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE)
- Hold a relevant higher level vocational qualification or degree in teaching in a subject within the curriculum area
- Act with honesty and integrity to maintain high standards of ethics and professional standards
- Have proven experience managing a curriculum, including planning, monitoring and reviewing
- Have an effective knowledge of the college and an appreciation of the wider educational issues.
- Be able to create and appreciate new ideas and perspectives, see possibilities and challenges
- Be able to manage and promote restorative practice approaches and the strengthening of relationships
- Be a role model and promote a positive image of the college
- Be able to embody the college values: Collaborative; Inspiring; Passionate; Aspirational; Celebrate Individuality; Respectful
- Be able to comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements
