Job overview

Empowering to excel by learning together

An exciting opportunity for an inspirational and collaborative leader to join our Senior Leadership Team. You will be joining a caring and supportive community, with a culture of high expectations through our shared values of Integrity, Courtesy, Hard Work and Success.

ICHS is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Deputy Headteacher to lead the pastoral provision in our culturally diverse, high achieving, grammar school for boys, following the recent promotion of the current postholder to Headship, and the expansion of the leadership team to a two deputy model. The successful candidate will be joining a well-established and successful senior leadership team and will be expected to participate fully in the wider leadership of our school.

This post would suit a talented and committed senior leader who is highly visible, inspirational, and collaborative in their approach to leadership. They will demonstrate: a commitment to supporting every member of our school community to achieve their best; an ability to build positive relationships with all stakeholders; outstanding and innovative pedagogical practice; excellent leadership and management skills; and have the aspiration and potential for headship.

Viewing the school is welcomed.

Start Date : April 2024 or September 2024

Closing date: Noon, Friday 2nd February 2024

Potential Interviews dates: Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th or Thursday 15th 2024

Applications may be considered as we receive them and we reserve the right to interview and appoint a suitably qualified candidate prior to the closing date.

Ilford County is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. In line with KCSIE 2023 and safer recruitment practices, an online search will be conducted for all shortlisted candidates. The online search is part of our safeguarding checks and will seek publicly available information on candidates’ suitability to work with children.

Values and vision

Ilford County High School wants all pupils to grow into happy, well-balanced young men during their time in secondary school and sixth form. Students are encouraged and nurtured to develop a wide range of skills and interests, alongside their academic capabilities. Strong emphasis is placed on citizenship and boys are supported to become actively involved in the wider community in Ilford.

Ofsted report

“Pupils are set aspirational academic targets by leaders and have high expectations of  themselves. Staff also encourage pupils to look after their physical and mental  health. Pupils said that their teachers talk about mental well-being all the time. If  pupils have a concern about anything, they can speak to a teacher. Pupils access  extra support if they need it."
