The International Education Agency (IEA) PNG was established in 1975 and operates 20 school campuses across Papua New Guinea.

The School

The Ela Murray International School (TEMIS) is a long established and highly regarded school in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The school operates on two campuses an Early Learning Centre (ages 2 to 5 years) and a primary/middle school (ages 5 to 14 years).

The Position

We are seeking a Deputy Principal (Head of Site) who will lead the Ela Murray Early Learning Centre (ELC). This will involve working closely with the principal of the school and the IEA Director of Education to manage this outstanding early years’ centre.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for an existing, highly

successful programme, based on play-based learning which is founded in the

Reggio Emilia inspired approaches.

The IEA is launching its Capturing Learning Curriculum in 2023 and this position will be pivotal in the delivery and further development of this programme.

General Information:

The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader and educator who will:

  • Be responsible for the delivery of the IEA's curriculum in early years.
  • Offer guidance and professional development to all teaching staff on planning, delivery, differentiation, and assessment.
  • Model the IEA Key Outcomes.
  • Set and maintain the IEA standards and expectations for teachers.
  • Establish procedures to monitor academic achievement, through data collection and analysis.
  • Encourage strong student and staff relationships.
  • Be a team player and promote collegiality.


Experience in the following is critical to the role.

  • Teacher development and ongoing PD.
  • Primary and middle years’ education.


Position Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with a qualification in early childhood education or equivalent.

• A minimum of 8 years of teaching experience in an Early Years setting.

• Plus, a minimum of 5 years leadership experience.

• A deep understanding of Early Years curriculum development including play-based learning and the Reggio Emilia approach.

• Experience monitoring the work of teachers and the ability to provide effective feedback leading to improvement.

• Previous international experience would be advantageous.

• A proficient level of English and communication skills.

The Ela Murray International School (TEMIS) is a non-profit, private, co-educational day school.
