We seek to appoint a suitably experienced and enthusiastic part-time Design Technology technician to support the continuing development of this large and busy department.
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside our current highly experienced and knowledgeable technician one day a week, taking sole responsibility for the role on the other two days.
Full training is offered for any aspects needed to fulfil the full job specification.
The technician’s role is extremely varied and is integral to the smooth running of the department supporting teachers to deliver the exciting and developing Design Technology curriculum for students from 11-18 years.
The role focuses on supporting teaching and learning in the product design, resistant materials, graphic products and CAD CAM areas of design technology and therefore the successful candidate will have a particular interest and aptitude for woodwork and metalwork, with computer aided design and manufacture experience being an advantage. The safe running of the department is a key part of the role, working closely with the Head of Department, and machine maintenance and health and safety aspects form a key part of this.
We have 4 well equipped workshops and a refurbished dedicated computer suite. There is a large, dedicated Technicians preparation area and stores. Equipment and machinery include: table saws, wood lathes, laser cutter, 3D printers, Milling machine, CNC router, engineering lathes, welding and braising facilities, alongside all other standard machinery.
This role would suit a candidate who is passionate about practical work, has good levels of IT skills, organisational, budgeting skills and would like to work with a team of experienced teaching professionals passionate about their subject and students.
