Job overview
An exciting position has become available to develop and lead the swimming for pupils of all ages from 2-18 at Radnor House Sevenoaks.
The Purpose of the Role
The school focuses on both participation and performance in swimming, hockey, football, and cricket for pupils. The Director of Swimming will work closely with the Director of Sport, Head of Prep PE and the Directors of Hockey, Cricket and Football in developing the school’s sports programmes with a special focus on leading the swimming from ages 2-18. The Director of Swimming will have a clear vision and ability to implement this to raise the performance and profile of swimming at Radnor House.
The swimming programme is led by the Director of Swimming with support from members of the sports department and swimming coaches/teachers. Swimming is delivered in our excellent 25 metre swimming pool with its overhanging viewing gallery.
The school places huge importance on swimming. All pupils from nursery to Year 6 have one lesson per week to ensure our pupils are confident in the water and able to swim effectively using all strokes. In years 7-9 all pupils have one full half term of swimming. In addition, the school also caters for the committed, more able and elite swimmers through its swim squad programmes.
The Director of Swimming will organise and run swim galas for our swim squads from year 3 upwards along with house swimming galas. The successful candidate will also be expected to support games lessons on busy fixture afternoons in hockey, football and or cricket. No specific expertise is required in these sports, but a willingness to get involved is important. An ability to support another sports programme such as strength and conditioning, athletics or tennis would be desirable but not essential.

Teachers are able to put this philosophy into practice in various ways, ranging from attendance at Professional Learning Groups (PLGs) which run on a variety of teacher-chosen Teaching and Learning themes, through to use of online resources, and formal training courses. We also encourage teachers to pursue further qualifications, and many of our staff take advantage of partial funding arrangements in place for further education including Masters degree studies.
