Job overview

Are you the right person to join us in our IB World School here in Budapest and help us continue our journey towards excellence as we develop exciting and innovative DP courses?

After a very successful first DP cohort examination in May 2024 and the rapid development of the programme, Budapest British International School (BBIS) is seeking an exceptional, innovative educator to join our community. This cohort achieved a 100% pass rate and an average score of 32.2. Our top score of 38 was completed by 3 of the first cohort's 13 students. The current DP Coordinator is expecting to start their maternity leave either at the end of December or the beginning of January. Although this is listed as maternity cover, it could become a permanent position.

Formed six years ago, BBIS is located in Buda, the leafy side of Budapest. Our current roll has 415 students from 3 to 18, representing many different nationalities. The current DP years have 65 students, 34 in DP2 and 31 in DP1. BBIS provides a 'students first' education, where every child is recognised, valued, and included. We are guided by the values of the IB and the mission of our founder: academic excellence by achieving more than you think you can.

Successful candidates should have knowledge and experience in teaching the IB DP & MYP. They must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher with a recognised teaching qualification and have completed recent IB DP training. They must demonstrate compatibility with the IB philosophy, coupled with the flexibility and commitment needed to meet the demands of an innovative and expanding school.

At this stage in our recruitment plan, the most important aspect we are looking for is the DP coordinator's leadership. While the DP coordinator will have a teaching commitment, we are open to a wide range of DP subjects.

Any of the following would provide a candidate with a distinct advantage:

  • Existing leadership role within an IB Authorised DP programme
  • IB recognised professional development for DP &/or MYP at CAT1 , CAT 2 & 3
  • Experience teaching both the DP & MYP programmes
  • Proven track record of guiding students through a DP course to successful examination outcomes
  • Experience guiding students through to Higher Education
  • IB Examiner for DP
  • Leadership Qualification (NPQSL, or equivalent)

BBIS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and will check the suitability of staff to work with children. Applicants must be willing to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and overseas police checks (where necessary).

Tell us how you think you could add value to our school and how you conceptualise the role of a leader. Please use the TES application form to submit your details, along with your letter of application and your CV.

You are most welcome to contact david.wheatley@bbis.hu to speak to our Head of Secondary in an informal and confidential conversation before making an application.

The shortlisted candidates will be invited to a video interview in the week beginning 7th October. BBIS reserves the right to arrange video interviews for suitable candidates before the closing date.

The closing date for applications is Friday 4th October at midday.

About Budapest British International School

At Budapest British International School, we believe that a successful education is all about inspired, imaginative teaching, centred on the learner as an individual. We nurture students not only to achieve academic success but also to become true global citizens.

BBIS is an International Baccalaureate World School. We work with children from the Early Years who enjoy the Primary Years Learning Activites within our Candidacy Programme. This is the basis of their learning and then as the children become young adults, we work within the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma in our Secondary School. Our school community is made up of over 420 students from over 30 nations. We pride ourselves on a small family with big ambitions!

BBIS is the only school in Budapest to offer a Secondary continuum of IB-accredited programmes: the IB MYP and DP.

Our programmes feature an inquiry approach that aligns student interests with what they learn, thereby enriching their natural curiosity and promoting a love of learning. Our team of internationally-experienced, skilled and passionate teachers model the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and encourage students to respect themselves, others and the world around them.

A strong sense of common purpose pervades our learning community. We believe that trust and strong parental participation are an integral part of quality education and we see parents as our partners in their children’s learning journey.

Thank you for your interest in BBIS. We look forward to welcoming you.
