Job overview

Required for April (or September) 2024 with R&R of £1200 for the first two years

Due to the promotion of a member of staff we are looking to appoint a specialist DT teacher. The successful candidate will be, or if an ECT, have the ability to become, an inspirational classroom practitioner in a caring and happy school.

DT is well resourced with specialist staff, rooming and equipment. There are four workshops delivering D&T (Resistant Materials), Graphic Design and Engineering, and we would like to hear from candidates with the ability to deliver one, or more than one of those subject areas. There are also two Food Tech rooms and one Textiles base. All pupils study DT in KS3 with many going on to choose DT options at KS4. The department is very popular and successful, consistently achieving excellent outcomes.

Frederick Gough School is an over-subscribed community school, which aims to ensure all of its learners leave as happy, well rounded, qualified individuals ready to succeed in the next chapter of their lives.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect applicants to have the same commitment. For all applicants there will be an enhanced DBS check including children’s barred list information. It is an offence for anyone barred from working with children to apply for this position.

Further details are available from the school and interested candidates are welcome to visit the school by appointment in advance, to meet with the Deputy Head, Mick Dalton, mdalton@frederickgoughschool.co.uk

The closing date for applications is noon on Thursday 14 December 2023, with interviews to be held the following week.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a safer recruitment, self-disclosure form and submit it prior to interview. References will be obtained prior to interview and an online search carried out following ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023’.

Values and vision

The school attaches great importance to getting to know each pupil, discovering their individual needs and identifying their potential in various areas of learning.

Frederick Gough prides itself on developing provision for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural needs of pupils, recognising the role these play in making the decisions that will impact on their future and the contribution they can make to society.

These values are an intrinsic part of school life.  Methods of moral guidance range from the continual and ad hoc interventions of all staff to special lessons, activities and trips with a moral aspect.

Ofsted
