About St. Michael's International School

We believe our young learners deserve the very best educational experience. This starts with providing the highest quality of teaching and learning possible, delivered by amazing professionals who all believe that our young people are capable of incredible things. Known as the small school with the big heart, St. Michael’s International School is the only IPC accredited international school in Japan, offering a specialised Early Years and Primary education, where young learners thrive in a unique and caring environment, nurtured by seventy five years of expertise.

Accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS),  the Western Academcy of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), St. Michael’s International School offers a distinctive, British-style education within a culture of academic excellence and maintains strong links to the Anglican church.   A focus on children aged between three and eleven years of age is maintained within a caring, family community.  St. Michael’s promotes cultural harmony through progressive and global education using a curriculum designed to cultivate critical thinking, enhance self-awareness and promote international mindedness. This is a research-based curriculum recognising global best practice in early childhood and primary education and delivered by highly experienced British and internationally qualified teachers. Alongside this is a strong values programme promoting respect, compassion, honesty, integrity, tolerance, understanding and endeavour.

Perfect for families new to Japan, the School is conveniently located in the heart of Kobe, just north of the major transportation centre in Sannomiya and on the southern edge of the charming residential area of Kitano which is popular with both international and Japanese families. The School operates on a single campus, with two well-maintained buildings, a shaded play area and a rooftop sports pitch.  The main building benefited from extensive renovation and refurbishment in 2017 whilst the new building is only 12 years old.   New playground equipment and soft play surface was installed in August 2018.

Our students are without doubt the jewel in the St. Michael’s International School crown; interested, highly motivated and excited to learn.   It says much about the quality of our School and perhaps the attractions of life in Japan, that staff turnover tends to be much lower than in many other international schools both in Japan and around the world.  Come and join us!
