Job overview
SJI International Elementary School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Chinese Performing Arts Teacher to inspire and nurture young minds through creative and cultural expression. This position will begin in July 2025. We require an educator with proven experience in Chinese performing arts to enhance Chinese language proficiency, cultural appreciation, and performing skills. The successful candidate should have a strong background in teaching students aged 4 to 12 years, developing multidisciplinary learning approaches, and incorporating traditional and contemporary Chinese performing arts into the curriculum. We are looking for someone who can collaborate effectively with colleagues, manage planning and teaching time efficiently, and show flexibility and creativity in a dynamic school environment. The successful candidate should also support the school's identity and values as a Catholic Lasallian school, though they need not share the same faith.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted during the week of January 6, 2025, and interviews (in person or online) will most likely be scheduled for the week of January 20, 2025.
Job Purpose
- Enhance Chinese language competency through an engaging, performing arts-integrated curriculum that encourages interactive and meaningful learning experiences.
- Promote understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and heritage by introducing students to traditional and contemporary performing art forms, helping them connect with Chinese customs and values.
- Inspire creative thinking, self-expression, and exploration of diverse perspectives through the integration of artistic elements, thereby enhancing students' problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Provide a multidisciplinary learning approach that helps students make connections between language, culture, and performing arts, enriching their overall educational experience.
- Foster a positive and motivating learning environment by making Chinese language learning enjoyable and accessible through various forms of artistic engagement.
- Address diverse learning styles and abilities through an arts-based approach, supporting students in grasping and retaining language skills more effectively.
- Build students' confidence, teamwork, and communication skills through group performances, presentations, and creative projects.
- Encourage students to develop a comprehensive worldview by connecting Chinese performing arts to Chinese language and culture learning.
- Offer students the opportunity to express their individuality and voice through various forms of artistic expression, fostering personal growth and emotional development.
- Create an immersive learning experience by integrating auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile elements, making Chinese language learning more impactful and enjoyable.
- Support cultural sensitivity and global awareness by helping students recognize and appreciate the diversity within Chinese-speaking communities, fostering respect for different cultural perspectives.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts (e.g., Music, Drama, Dance), Education, or a related field
- 3 or more years of international school teaching experience
- Complete fluency in spoken and written Chinese and English
