Are you looking for a new role? New Barn School is currently under going development and will be expanding come September '24. This has opened up a number of new vacancies at an exciting time for the school.

New Barn School is a special educational needs school, NAS accredited with an Ofsted rated 'Good' that caters for academically able autistic students with associated difficulties, including ADHD and complex needs. The majority of students will have either of statement of special educational needs or an education, health and care plan (EHCP). Our dedicated staff are committed to creating a learning culture that enables the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

We are welcoming applications for the position of an English Teacher who can teach up to GCSE level. The ability to teach an additional subject will be a distinct advantage. As would experience of supporting students with Autism and / or other associated learning difficulties. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, qualified and enthusiastic English teacher to support the school with securing outstanding outcomes for the students.

Specific Duties Include:

  • The teaching of pupil/s according to their individual educational needs and abilities.
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to all pupils that are appropriate to their age and ability.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on the development of pupil progress, attainment and behaviour.
  • Maintaining good order and discipline amongst all pupils and safeguarding their health and safety at all times.
  • Sharing in any possible and reasonable way the effective management, organisation, order and discipline of the school.
  • Working with the Senco to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP’s), Individual Behaviour Plans (IBP’s) and Individual Learning Plans (ILP’s).
  • Communicating, consulting and co-operating with other members of the school staff to ensure the best interests of all pupils.
  • Participating in In-Service education and training courses as well as continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities.


Role Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivery of the English curriculum, so that it meets the aims of the school and the needs of all students.
  • To ensure that all lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives.
  • To ensure that all lessons are delivered in line with the departmental schemes of work and school policies.
  • To take into account the differing ability lessons of students and differentiate work accordingly.
  • To encourage all students to be actively engaged in their own learning and in reviewing their progress against targets.
  • To encourage and foster intellectual curiosity.
  • To deal with inappropriate behaviour quickly and effectively according to the school behaviour policy.
  • To check that all subject matter is effectively communicated and understood by all groups of students.
  • To keep careful records of student progress in line with school policy.
  • To keep work areas tidy and well organised, in line with our ASD policy.


You should have a proven ability of maintaining and delivering innovative curriculum, be self motivated with outstanding organisation and planning skills.

New Barn School is part of Treehouse Educare Ltd., which consists of our school and two children’s homes. We are registered for children aged 7 - 19 and currently have 80 children on roll with development plans in place to exceed to 120. New Barn School has been awarded Autism Accreditation by The National Autistic Society, the UK’s leading charity for people on the autism spectrum and their families.

Newbarn School is a special school that caters for students with high-functioning autism and associated difficulties. All of our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

New Barn School is a purpose-built facility with the interior designed by architects experienced in creating spaces for people on the autism spectrum. The modern building enables us to offer a broad, balanced, engaging and challenging curriculum that will provide the greatest opportunities for successful outcomes for our students.

The main building, which extends across two floors, incorporates six classrooms as well as a science room, food technology room, ICT suite, art studio, hall, intervention room, 1:1 room, first-aid room, kitchen, dining room and offices. There is also a sports hall and a separate building for vocational skills (including a music room).

We have been open since January 2017 and have received our OFSTED inspection which rated us a GOOD school in 2022. We are proud of our pupils and all that they achieve on a regular basis at Newbarn and we are excited for the future success we will experience.

We have dedicated and well-trained staff who are supported by an excellent senior leadership team and together with pupils, parents and families, aim to provide exceptional outcomes for young people.
