Job overview
This is an excellent opportunity for Newly Qualified (NQT) and Experienced Teachers alike since it will provide opportunities for those who wish to develop their skills, take the initiative in bringing new ideas and play a part in the development of a relatively new, small but highly supportive school.
Lower Secondary English Teacher - Panyathip International School - The British International School in Laos, is looking for a lower Secondary English Teacher in Vientiane.
Panyathip International School is widely regarded as an ambitious school – ambitious for its students and its staff - as it develops and grows.
The School's Vision "Become the Best that You can Be" is its guiding principle and recent developments have shown what that means in practical ways. These include the opening of a purpose-built Primary Campus, just a few minutes from the Secondary School (where the Primary School used to be housed). The purpose built Kindergarten is also very close to the Primary so it is possible to ensure continuity of education through a one-school approach.
In many ways, just like on our other campuses, the Secondary School is like a large family; students and staff are seen as individuals and classes are small allowing the team to have a strong collegial approach. By and large our students are keen to learn and teachers are able to teach rather than have to maintain discipline.
Facilities in our secondary campus include a swimming pool, covered court, school hall and a canteen on site. In addition we are also housing the teaching and administration space for the new Nottingham University Foundation Course (a first for Laos) on our Secondary Campus. Throughout the Secondary Campus there are specialist classrooms and with the recent departure of the Primary School to its own campus, over the long holiday our facilities have been upgraded to include a superb new Library in the heart of the campus, upgraded IT facilities and the creation of more specialist teaching/learning and leisure spaces.
Living and Working in Laos - Vientiane is the capital of Laos which is separated from Thailand by the mighty Mekong river. The border with Thailand is not far over the 'Friendship Bridge' where there are further amenities.
Vientiane itself seems more like a large town rather than the seat of government. It is safe and the people are friendly. There are cafes and restaurants and a range of different cultural opportunities available in the city or nearby.
The airport provides easy access to neighbouring countries and within Laos, for example, the UNESCO World Heritage destination of Luang Prabang is less than an hour away by plane. (The really adventurous can travel there by road or river - though both take a little longer).
For those with a sense of adventure Vientiane is an ideal location to be - and this is a particularly good time to join us as 2018 is Visit Laos Year with lots of cultural and other events.
Salary and Benefits - For the successful candidate our package includes a tax-paid dollar salary (paid in dollars and kip - the local currency), travel/relocation allowance, daily lunch, all work permit/visa costs and other benefits. Specific details will be discussed with those who are short-listed.
Police clearance and other formalities - Panyathip International Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practices and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. All teachers appointed to Panyathip - The British International School in Laos, are required to provide criminal records checks. Further details will be provided during interview.
