Job overview
Examination Invigilators (Casual)- Spot Rate - £12.14 per hour
St Mary’s Catholic School are seeking to engage additional invigilators to join our existing team of invigilators. Invigilators are engaged on a casual ad hoc basis and liaise with the Examinations team to agree availability for each assignment, enabling them to work around other commitments.
Whether you are looking for a step up into experience of working in a school, you are an experienced education professional/invigilator or are thinking of working around family/personal commitments, this could be the role for you. Often a first step into (re) entering a career in education, invigilation is an ideal opportunity to learn about working in education and future career opportunities. Support and training will be given throughout your working relationship with us.
Examinations (internal and external) take place throughout the academic year, including a mock examination season, usually held in November, but the main external examination season is during May and June. In addition to the examinations, in order to remain on the list of invigilators you will from time to time throughout the year and no less than once a term also be required to attend additional (paid) training sessions, together with other mandatory school wide training / update sessions.
Invigilators are required to conduct and invigilate the examination in line with JCQ Regulations and ensure that candidates conduct themselves according to those regulations.
Examinations usually take place in morning and afternoon sessions between 8.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Although invigilators agree and accept which sessions they wish to work, successful applicants will be required to be available and flexible to allow for the examination requirements to be met.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS disclosure is required for all successful applicants. St Mary’s is committed to the equality of opportunity for all applicants, and we reserve the right to interview on a rolling basis, therefore an early application is advisable.
We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.
Apply in writing using the forms available on our website www.stmarys.net: Support Staff Application Form, Consent to Obtain References Form, Rehabilitation of Offenders Form & Recruitment Monitoring Form. Applicants are reminded that they should read the Notes to Applicants before completing an application. Please note only applications on St Mary’s forms will be accepted. Please contact Deirdre McHugh, Interim Headteacher d.mchugh@stmarys.net or Recruitment@stmarys.net to submit an application or for more information.

Welcome
St. Mary’s has a strong tradition of providing an authentic education which aims to deliver excellence for every member of our Catholic community. It is our mission to build on that tradition as we develop the school still further over the years ahead.
Our school is built upon an ambitious mission for each and every young person: to fulfil academic potential; to be fully developed in the personal, social and spiritual areas of life; to achieve excellence in every area of life; and to be underpinned by Gospel Values, enabling each person to value individuals and contribute positively to society. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to ensure that this mission is accomplished in the lives of all our young people, and in so doing, enable those young people to live life to the full.
The aims of the school are:
• the formation of our young people according to Gospel values;
• the fulfilment of the potential of our pupils in all aspects of the curriculum;
• the personal, social and spiritual development of our pupils into responsible, generous and caring members of society;
• the achievement of all these within a culture of respect and appreciation for the worth and contribution of each member of our school and its wider community.
In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students. These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
