OVERALL OBJECTIVES FOR THE POST:

To be responsible for the planning, preparation and administration of all internal and external examinations for the school to ensure that all students are able to achieve their best possible results

Examinations General

  • Directly responsible for leading and managing support staff including Invigilators, Senior Invigilators and to ensure an efficient and effective service is provided.
  • Responsible for establishing a 12-month programme for external and internal examinations.
  • Responsible for maintaining full and current knowledge of all JCQ legislation observing rigorously and implementing changes as necessary (including associated training) ensuring that the school does not breach legislation.
  • Production of detailed plans relative to examination resource requirements.
  • Responsible for collecting and collating essential student information for examination and assessment requirements including consortia and external students as required.
  • Manipulate relevant computer software packages to process and generate appropriate examination information, data and guidance notes.
  • Plan and prepare examination venues including carrying out risk assessments as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, induction and training of all external invigilators.
  • Responsible for the archiving of examination records in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Preparing and setting up the exam room, laying out candidate cards and displaying the required IT software as necessary.
  • Assisting candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues.
  • Offering advice and guidance to unregistered candidates without allocated seats; ensuring that candidates do not talk once inside examination venues.
  • Invigilating during examinations, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in accordance with strict procedures.
  • Checking attendance during examinations; recording details of late arrivals, early leavers, and collecting scripts from early leavers.
  • Escorting candidates from venues during the examinations as required and supervising candidates whilst outside examination venues.
  • Collecting and collating scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with strict procedures.
  • Supervising candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner.
  • Supervising and supporting candidates in access arrangement room. For example read, scribe, prompt. Following the regulations in the JCQ Instructions for Conducting Examinations booklet.
  • Packing down the room after the exam has finished and returning all equipment to the main room ready for the next exam.


OTHER DUTIES:

  • Communicate routine and complex information efficiently and effectively to a broad range of audiences: Teaching Staff, Leadership Group, Site Officers, Students, Parents, Awarding Bodies, Support Staff, Invigilators
  • Responsible for actioning exam queries and giving advice on all exam matters across the School.
  • Undertake training and development commensurate with the post.

Examination Procedures:

  • Liaison with Subject Leaders to ascertain essential requirements.
  • Responsible for the preparation and production of timetables.
  • Responsible for identifying suitable examination venues and the preparation of seating plans.
  • Arrange invigilation including training staff as appropriate.
  • Liaison with SENDCo to ascertain student requirements with regard to special needs.
  • Liaison with support staff to ensure examination venue(s) are appropriately prepared.
  • Production of letters informing students and parents of examination dates and requirements.
  • Attending the examination venue at the commencement and completion of each examination.
  • Allocate resources and direct support staff

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

The post holder will be required to have a valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and be re-checked every 3 years as per Portslade Aldridge Community ​procedures.

About Portslade Aldridge Community Academy

Welcome to Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA), a thriving 11-16 school rated Good by Ofsted (2016). Our results have been consistently improving for over three years and our Progress 8 score (0.3) is now the second highest in the city. Recognised as Brighton’s Most Improved School in the local media in 2017, our KS3 student intake grew over 80% year on year in 2017, and is set for further significant growth in 2018.

PACA has developed a strong learning culture of “Expert Learner” with students actively engaged in their own progress. High standards are maintained throughout the school with strong outcomes, particularly in the fundamentals of English and maths. We also have excellent outcomes in art and a focus on STEM. PACA is so much more than a school. We work closely with, and offer our facilities to, the wider community as well as partnering with local primary schools and employers. Those facilities, which have benefitted from an £13m investment since we became an academy, include a STEM centre, Mac suite, specialist dance and art studios, and a community library. Our positive contribution to the community in which we live and work was recognised in winning the Brighton Community School of 2016 Award and the Most Improved School in Brighton & Hove Award 2017.
