Purpose of the Job
· To ensure the quality of education within the school, specific to an agreed area, delivers effective and positive learning opportunities and outcomes for all students and pupils.
· To be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of a specific agreed aspect of the School Development Plan.
· Lead agreed members of curriculum staff relevant to the designated Faculty. This will include ensuring the effective appraisal, management and support of staff and resources as appropriate to support effective learning.
Main Duties
1. In conjunction with the Headteacher and SLT, and as part of the Extended School Leadership Team (ESLT), ensure that the school complies with the requirements of OFSTED, Shaftesbury and other external regulators. This includes responsibility for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of agreed aspects of the school development plan, ensuring the collection, analysis and presentation of quality data.
2. In conjunction with the Headteacher and as part of the ESLT, support the management of the quality self-evaluation process. This includes the production of the annual self-evaluation report and SDP and providing regular reports as requested.
3. To oversee planning, teaching and assessment within the Faculty area and to monitor, evaluate and refine those processes. Where subjects within the Faculty are led by others, to line manage these processes.
4. To signpost and, where appropriate, provide effective resources to deliver high quality learning.
5. To take an active role in developing a school culture and environment which secures effective learning across the breadth of the school curriculum.
6. To clearly demonstrate highly effective teaching in line with the Teacher Standards.
7. To act as a role model and/or mentor for other staff members in promoting best practice within the Faculty area.
8. To maintain and support effective safeguarding as part of the ESLT.
9. To be responsible for reviewing, planning and facilitating the implementation of training needs in conjunction with the Deputy Head that are relevant to the designated Faculty area.
10. To participate and if required lead meetings, staff training sessions and programmes in allocated area.
11. To ensure the high quality of assessment and review meetings in the allocated Faculty, in conjunction with the Deputy Head.
12. To develop links with other Shaftesbury Education Teams, external specialist schools and/or other providers, where relevant to develop and enhance opportunities for students.
13. Ensure all students and their families are kept informed of the development of curriculum areas, and where appropriate consulted.
14. To be responsible for and be able to evidence own professional development by undertaking relevant training, attending meetings, conferences and events.
15. To ensure the effective deployment of budget.
16. Carry out any additional duties and tasks that may be required within the range of the responsibilities of the post.
