About Batley Girls' High School

Batley Girls' High School (BGHS) is situated in north Kirklees close to junction 27 of the M62 and was awarded academy status in 2011 by the Department for Education in recognition of its excellent provision.

Home to a diverse community of students, from north and south Kirklees and beyond, who join from 11 years of age and enjoy a holistic education through to age 19. BGHS is proud to offer girls an educational experience that extends beyond traditional curriculum, with a real sense of nurturing a thirst for lifelong learning.

With an approach and curriculum designed to create a transformational secondary education experience, students are inspired to discover life skills, academic knowledge and a sense of achievement. A consistently high-ranking school and recognised as outstanding by OFSTED because students are stimulated with a personalised education, giving them a sense of belonging and support to enable them to focus on what they enjoy.

BGHS is unique as the only 11-19 outstanding academy for girls in Kirklees, with an excellent reputation built upon a sustained commitment to students' achievement and attainment and with a proven track record of success over many years. Batley Girls’ Sixth Form College (rebranded as BG6 in 2020) continues to evolve and with a designated separate site, which sits within the school grounds, it offers students the security of a school environment combined with a freedom of a college.

Highly dedicated teachers, many of whom have been with the school for over 20 years and are former students, are committed to developing bright futures for students to maximise their potential.

The current student population consists of around 1,300 students, as well as 233 BG6 students. There are approximately 90 teaching staff and 95 associate staff. The Leadership Team comprises the Headteacher, two Heads of School and six Assistant Heads.
