Job overview

The London Oratory School invites you to apply for the post of Finance Officer. Trad but quirky, The London Oratory is amongst the city’s most prestigious Catholic schools. Educating boys from 7 to 18, with girls in the sixth form, it puts a strong emphasis on music with a liturgical twist, all as part of a broad, liberal arts curriculum – but that’s not all, so do please visit our website for a fuller flavour: https://www.london-oratory.org

Our invitation:

We are recruiting a suitably qualified and dedicated Finance Officer to become an integral part of our Finance Department and the fabric of our school Non-Teaching staff team.  The Finance Officer facilitates smooth running of the School’s financial systems, in conjunction with our Finance Officer and the Director of Finance and Operations and they will also work with the Director of HR.

Your gifts:

The successful candidate will have the ability to balance competing demands to run a smooth finance office; handling school expenses, processing payments, and coordinating budgets. They should have a meticulous eye for detail, and be able to expertly process financial data. We are looking for a candidate who is happy working within our bustling school atmosphere and wider team.

The applicant should be able to meet competing, complex demands under pressure, have good technical skills and be happy working within our bustling school atmosphere and wider team. Knowledge of the financial systems we use (iCompleat, ParentPay and Access) would be an advantage, or the postholder must be willing to learn how to be a confident user of these systems.

The Finance Officer will work with Senior Staff, Heads of Department, and other members of staff on a regular basis. The Finance Office offers an efficient, helpful and effective service. We are looking for a member of the team who can seamlessly integrate and help us to continue to offer and improve this offering. The nature of the work demands that discretion and confidentiality are of utmost importance at all times.

Our School:

In addition to first class, tasteful facilities (including on-site parking, a state of the art gym and swimming pool) and a highly competitive salary package, here are five reasons as to why you might consider working with us:

1. Our vision: A compelling vision of what a distinctively Catholic education should look like, open to the world and fitting pupils to move through it with panache and confidence;

2. Our pupils: Well-disciplined, switched on, cosmopolitan - and quirky - supported in their growth by skilled staff and a tightly structured pastoral system;

3. Our staff: An intellectually lively and collegial Common Room culture, that supports you in your growth as a subject and career expert;

4. Our priority: A highly supportive and collegial atmosphere at all levels that values and recognises the great work that all school staff do, and the challenges and sacrifices they make to do it. In addition to daily freshly brewed coffee, we also offer full access to staff medical and counselling services, should these be required;

5. Your future: An innovative staff development programme that looks to support you in growing in your vocation, in a school that thinks through the implications of cutting edge pedagogical research and development, within a rich philosophical and spiritual heritage.

The School enjoys a competitive salary scale to recognise and reward the very committed body of staff that make up its Common Room.

Your call:

Applications will be considered as they are submitted, and the School reserves the right to interview suitable applicants before the deadline.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. We are an equal opportunities employer.

About The London Oratory School

Trad but quirky, The London Oratory School is a mainstream, Roman Catholic, all-through school with sixth form, situated in Fulham, south-west London. Founded in 1863 by the Fathers of the Oratory, we cater for boys aged seven to eighteen and have approximately 1,330 pupils enrolled.  Girls are admitted to the Sixth form.

We encourage all staff to get involved in our vibrant school life. The school is committed to developing staff and growing their skillset through CPD.  We have first class facilities which all staff are encouraged to use (including daily refreshments, on-site parking, a state of the art gym and swimming pool).

The school moved to its present site in 1970. In September 1989, the voluntary-aided school became grant-maintained. A Junior House was added next to the Arts Centre in September 1996.
