Malbank School & Sixth Form College

Full Time Teacher of Food Technology  MPS/UPS

Permanent contract from SEPTEMBER 2025

We are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Food Technology to add to the capacity of our Technology team. While Food Technology will be the primary focus of this role, the ideal candidate will also possess the ability to teach a secondary subject, such as Product Design, Textiles, and/or Art.

As our school continues to grow, we are looking to further improve the Teaching & Learning experience of all by reducing class sizes in the Technology department. In addition to this we have expanded the range of courses on offer at KS4 within this curriculum area to meet the needs of our students and to give them the very best opportunity to succeed. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with a track record of supporting students to ensure that they make excellent progress.

At KS3 all students study Technology with Food Technology being a crucial part of this, delivered on a carousel model. KS3 students also study Design Technology and Textiles. Building upon this strong foundation, we offer a Hospitality and Catering pathway at Key Stage 4. Recognising the growing demand for skilled professionals in the hospitality industry, we are eager to expand this provision to Key Stage 5.

About the department.

Technology is taught by four specialist teachers who form a friendly and co-operative team. Three are Product Design and Electronics teachers and one Textiles and Food specialist, all teachers are expected to teach key stage 3 Food Technology. The department further benefits from the specialised expertise of a dedicated Food Technology technician and a D&T technician. We have 3 specialist DT workshops, 2 specialist Food Technology rooms and a Textiles room all supported with appropriate technologies. The Technology Department benefits from the advantage of CAD/CAM equipment including a 3D Printer and laser cutter. The department currently offers Design and Technology to A-level.

We are looking for a candidate who is:

·        An inspirational teacher with high expectations of students and themselves, who is determined to secure good outcomes for students.

·        Able to teach Food courses to KS3 and KS4.

·        A belief that all pupils can succeed in this curriculum area.

·        Willing to generously give their time outside of lessons to students and colleagues.

·        Actively supportive of the learning culture and values of the school.

·        Committed to their professional development

·        Resilient, has presence, boundless energy and a good sense of humour.

Continued professional development is strong within the Technology team, with a timetabled fortnightly CPD period. The Head of Department is passionate about developing the team, driving a love of the subject and is committed to improving the experience within Technology.
